Re: [Cable] Dallas/Ft Worth Metro Vol I -- Time Warner

It's a switch that mounts on back of box where the A/B cables come in.
They have not released a version of Dual Tuner box that would allow the same type of switch to be mounted and work properly in combination with box.

Hopefully within 18 months or so as currently planned A/B systems will be no more in Dallas.

Did you say 18 months? I was under the assumption it was a top priority. If it is really going to take 18 months, I may have to check elsewhere...

"Hopefully within 18 months or so as currently planned A/B systems will be no more in Dallas."

In other words, as they have told us they are looking to be finishing up 18 months from now.

"Did you say 18 months? I was under the assumption it was a top priority. If it is really going to take 18 months, I may have to check elsewhere..."

For a large area as Dallas that is pretty good as a priority. Knowing how construction and such works there are many factors to consider that can happen beyond the scope of work.

They are starting in Richardson I believe and working from there. Considering I'm not directly in construction department I am unaware of details, but they are definitely working on now.

I saw TWC trucks out on Renner Rd in Richardson this morning. (Far east side, between North Star & Murphy Rd.) Looked like they were laying some cable. Not sure if this is part of the upgrades. I thought they could use the existing cable and just upgrade the plant to go to single line.

Re: [Cable] Dallas/Ft Worth Metro Vol I -- Time Warner

pcbrew,

Usually they have to replace the feeder line... If they have 2 500mhz cables, 1 carrying the A side and the other the B side they will need to replace the whole plant. I don't know about the trunk lines but these may need replacing as well.

A simplified explanation is that your A side cable is carrying as much signal as possible so they have the B side to pick up the left over signal that the A can't. Most likely a 750mhz cable will replace the two legacy cables... More than enough for future channels and services...

Hope I didn't confuse you further...lol

They are from my understanding just now beginning the upgrade in the Richardson area. They can use existing cable but will have to re-space the Amps and install more Nodes because of 860MHz spacing. I want to say Time Warner has a different philosophy on how many homes passed on 1 Node compared to what Comcast believed in. TW wants somewhere around 500-750 homes passed per node compared to what I've seen which was max about 1250-1350 homes passed on some nodes in the Dallas area right now. So TW will be dropping more nodes in neighborhoods and yes the upgrade has already started in Richardson first then Mesquite then Dallas. This is what I've heard, could change in 10 minutes!!!

Re: [Cable] Dallas/Ft Worth Metro Vol I -- Time Warner

I was seeing some confusion on who had what ads on their guide. I'm in 75067 zip and this is what we are seeing. I saw some were complaining. I have called, but is their a email address anyone is using to send in these complaints? Also, whats funny is the brochure they sent out about the new channel line up. If you look at their features on the iguide(right page of the channel lineup pullout) it shows a picture of the guide WITHOUT ads, hmm false advertising?

Here is what I'm seeing,

Seen the same brochure with no Ad on bottom. I am seeing same as your pic in 75253.

I would call 972-742-5892 and/or fill this out:

Unless someone else can post an email address that has gotten better results.

Anyone else experiencing an outage tonight? I'm uptown & mine started around 9. Still not back on. First 2hrs w/o power last week & now no Entourage!

You don't have to rewire every apartment to go from dual like to single line. All the signal will go through 1 of the drops vs. split across two drops....lol

And yes, this is a time consuming project... miles and miles of plant will have to be replaced...

So has anyone called for pricing on the new channel lineup coming in september? it looks like they will attempt to tier you to death. looking at austin prices expect about a 15.00/mth increase for similar tv vs comcast.

just great.

Hmm, don't know about *new* channels, but did anyone else see their ad in today's edition of the Dallas Morning News (page 10A):

"...will discontinue carriage of the NFL Channel, effective September 3, 2006. We are continuing to negotiate...[blah blah blah]"

Re: [Cable] Dallas/Ft Worth Metro Vol I -- Time Warner

I wasn't on auto bill pay, but to be able to pay through the TWC web site I had to go through the "new user" login process. Once I did, they had all my previous payment info saved for my account. So the setup is just for using their site -- your payment info & preferences should be transferred already.

Lately my digital simulcast channels (660, 661, etc) have become unwatchable (drop-outs so bad the picture disappears) and the analog channels have become horrible, too.
I know it's gonna look bad on the HD-TV, but now they're almost unwatchable on the regular TV, too.

Anybody else having the same problem?
It started pretty much around the time TWC took over.
Not very promising so far...:-(

BTW, does anyone know why GoalTV isn't in the sports package?

Looks like we will have a change to the lineup starting September 18. The mailer I got indicates inHD will become a VOD channel, and inHD2 will be dropped. No HDNET. I can't believe we are *losing* HD channels! Looks like Sundance is going away too.

I hope we get a Time Warner Cable and Time Warner HSI forum in the US Cable Support section.

wt hell? What are they adding, if they're dropping two HD channels?

Hopefully the mailer was printed "too early" to include the HDNets, but yeah, that really nipping our hope in the bud, taking over and instantly dropping two HD channels

Not that I watch InHD all the time, but it's nice knowing it's there. I like Three Sheets and Beer Nutz.

I wish that TNT-HD would finally get their broadcast corrected.

while i find INHDs getting more boring and boring, i'd be pretty mad if we lose them. I mean I really hoped to get something out of this..but if the ruomors are true..than i'm definately heading to Dish, 29 HD channels aren't bad but i heard most of them are crap too but that's not the principle of this thing

@comcast.net

I'm currently a D* customer with "Comcast HSI" (don't know when they'll officially change that over to RR)..

So I picked up a 6412 (I believe) to try HD, not P3 as it's got DVI not HDMI.. it's 'single tuner' with the relay blob on the back with an 'A' and 'B' input, it clicks when switching..

I've noticed the B channels don't work at all on this box, but if I pipe the same coax into my VCR everything is fine.

I assume it's a bad box, but could it be anything else? I live in an apartment (A/B style not 'MDU') so there's no telling what could be going on with the cable..

I'll probably call in tomarrow to see what they can try for me but I was just curious if anyone had any ideas or things to check for.

I like HD very much but I need a more expensive component/vga transcoder or a real scaler (no HD - I have computer monitors and a CRT projector in peices).. also, I wish the damn thing had native rez input to output option instead of all 720p or 1080i :P

I might end up dropping it for now and waiting for a Series 3 tivo, if it ever comes out and I can afford it.. My DirecTiVos are so much easier to use and more responsive.

Trust me, you'll throw that 6412 away. Moto DVR is a real piece of shiet. 99% choking and halt when browsing channels. Happened on all 3 of my units...Going tho program is real pain in the ash. I have advised anyone that asked me opinion on satellite vs cable if they aren't hardcore on image quality. Don't get Cable DVR.

@comcast.net

I am in Plano (75024) and have digital cable on two tvs and regular on another. frequently the B channels on all tvs become complete static and remain that way for several hours to a day or more. I have had numerous technicians out to the house and they have never been able to find a problem. I have wasted hours of time on the phone with Comcast and now Time Warner, and neither company has been able to give me an answer. Has anyone else experienced this???? ANY suggestions?!!

Re: [Cable] Dallas/Ft Worth Metro Vol I -- Time Warner

It was likely removed because Time Warner doesn't have a contract for it that Comcast did. I read in one of the threads Comcast had rights to broadcast 2200 hours of ondemand and Time Warner only 1100.

man all i see are cuts and more cuts from time warner. really nothing of value is being added for me from the catalog I was sent. i see cspan3, alot of international news channels, and boomerang to look foward too. that really isn't anything to me. satellite is looking better and better.

Can someone explain to me what good it does to have the local brodcast channels coming down the pipe 3 ways?

1. analog
2. HD
3. digital

If we aren't switching to digital only in the next week, why are they simulcasting the locals on digital?

It's troublesome when I see duplication of channels yet in the HD world we are having channels taken away after the change over.

Re: [Cable] Dallas/Ft Worth Metro Vol I -- Time Warner

The lack of HD content has very little to do with capacity and more to do with contract agreements.

Why wouldn't we want locals available in HD and Digital? The analog looks like crap on my 55" HD and I don't particularly care for the black bars of HD on non HD content so its nice to flip over to the local digital broadcast during those non HD shows.

As far a analog, I assume the majority of subscribers use the analog signal and will probably continue to do so until they are made to use the dig. box.

I'm right there with you and want to see more HD channels but having locals on digital has zero effect negative or positive on the issue of more HD channels...

Well, my Cable DVD is rocking along just fine. I can record two HD shows at once, and it works great.

With regard to the digital locals, I can understand what you mean. I watch my HD locals, though. I really don't want to magnify Pete Delkus. I will however magnify Gina Miller and Macie Jepson. Rrrwwrrr!!!

The Digital SD signal is a direct fiber feed from the station. A seperate digital encoder is used. Pic quality should be much better than the analog local.

This all assumes it is not caught up in the too much compression.

I am like most of you and watch the HD digital local signal. This too is a direct feed from most of the stations. It can take an automatic sw to air should the fiber get lost by a backhoe.

Agreed. The outage had better not be a sign of things to come. My comcast connection had not gone down for two years. Time Warner takes over, and it takes them all of a few weeks to screw things up.

Re: [Cable] Dallas/Ft Worth Metro Vol I -- Time Warner

Time Warner CATV construction signs are up all over Richardson. not sure if this has anything to do with the single line upgrade.

This is at Campbell/Plano Road..Also in the residential areas off of Floyd Rd. between Campbell and Arapaho.

How long is this expected to take, and when will they "turn on" the single line service in Richardson -- i.e. will it be immediately after hte work is completed or will they wait till the entire metroplex is upgraded?

I hope that we will get some new HD channels (hdnet and hdnet movies) in the next month or so, but I'm not holding my breath.

What's funny is, Comcast is supposedly close to an agreement with HDNet, so they could concievably have it in their areas before TWC gets it here (and TWC ALREADY has an agreement with HDNet).

Plano (75025)- B-side was out from 9:15PM 'til ? last night, but it was on from 5-5:30 this morning. I did notice some power lines located and marked around my nearest (ground-level) amp last night. I don't know why they would locate power, but I wonder if they're working on the single-line upgrade?

Well, here it's still out. I just hope you're right and they are upgrading to the one-line system, because an outage that long shouldn't be just a "regular" issue.
On the other hand, if it is because of upgrades, they sure could have warned us.
