When did TW start slipping SD local commercials into HD channel commercial breaks? It's making my TV go back and forth between 1080i and 480p... |

| Would it cost them that much to upscale the local commercials to HD? I don't know how much money they're saving, but I think it's bad form to make their customers' TVs change resolutions all friggin' day. |

There are newer models, with more storage, but still run the crappy software. The hardware is better, but it doesn't make a difference since the software is slow and buggy.
Get a Tivo if you want it to be responsive and have a modern interface. |

| reply to dennis1x36 Was there a recent firmware or software update? A lot of shows set up for series recording are not recording every show. The shows show up on the "On Screen Guide", but the shows do not show up in the list of air times for a specific show on HD channels on random days. Weekly recordings are only recording every other week because when you view air times for that show, they do not appear to be showing on teh HD channel even though they are listed on the on screen guide. Problem only started about two weeks ago when there seemed to be a software update that caused the guide to start downloading again on Monday September 21.
Customer Service wants me to change the box out for the third time in 9 months, but the fact that the guide and air time listings are not right after that last automatic reset of the box, I am wondering if there is a new software problem. Anyone else have random shows not record on HD that past couple of weeks.
Don't want to change the box again because I have many hours of programs recorded that I want to watch, like most of last season of Lost. I have performed a reset on the box and still getting random shows not appearing on the HD schedule but they do appear on all the regular channels.
Two and a Half Men didn't record this week, but will record next week, but won't record the following week. Same for Community, Flash Forward, Fringe season open didn't record but is registered to record this week. Sunday night football didn't record last week, but is registered to record this coming Sunday. House has the same issues. |

| I am having the same trouble. Shows are simply not recording when they should. I have resorted to pushing record when the show starts because I have no faith in the box doing it automatically.
I am just about done with TWC. I was at a friends with AT&T the other day and realized just how bad TWC has become. No lag, always records and double the HD content. It really was amazing how big a difference there is.
I guess TWC has no interest in keeping up with other companies products and just keeping pushing the same old antiquated garbage on their customers. |

| I am having the same issue with some of the shows not recording. At first I thought that I had messed up with the setup but I am glad to hear that I am not the only one. The other issue that I also noticed is that there are 2 USA channels (46 and 240 I think) and that if I set the recording for 240 it always records the other one. I believe that the channel name is the same for both. Not like what they did for the local channels where there are 3 with different labels. |

I find I have to delete the series recording and re-add it. It is very frustrating... Tivo's don't do this... |

| reply to dennis1x36 I have erased all my series recordings and started over. It still does the same thing.
The shows appear in the on screen main guide, but when you list the "air times and channels" for a particular show such as House, a list of times and channels appears on the screen, but the show does not appear to be on the HD channel 357. The funny thing is that the following week House will be on the 357 channel, and the series recording will record it. It won't record House when it isn't on the list in the "air times and channels" menu.
Same for many other shows that mysteriously disappear on the "other air times and channels" as being broadcast on HD.
I can scroll up one channel to 358 and record a series recording of House fine in regular TV, but for some reason House is getting dropped from the program lineup where the series recording gets its information from to start a recording.
Community doesn't appear to be playing this Thursday at 8:30PM on channel 363 when you access the list of times the show Community is airing, it doesn't register that it is on 363 at 8:30PM on Thursday. It registers that the show is on channel 362 and 364, and the series recording will record those two channels, but not the HD channel. The following week Community does appear in the list of air times as being on HD 363 and the series recording is set to actually record that one, but not the show this week. It's happening with many of the shows I have set up. Some weeks they are recording whereas others they are not.
All these episodes show up in teh basic on screen guide though, but aren't showing up in the air times listing for each program which is where I gather the series recording function goes to access what to record or not.
Just started about 2 weeks ago during House on September 21. I noticed my recording was interrupted and the guide started to download as if an update had gone through and my box reset. Since then the mysterious disappearing HD shows have been happening.
My complaints to TWC customer Service have been sent up the chain because I think that they realize the issue is with there Guide and software and not the box itself since it seems to record series that actually show up in the list that the series recording function uses to function. Glad (well not glad) I am not the only one. When TWC would not answer my question as to, "what happens if I exchange the box and the same thing happens," and I actually described the exact instance that caused the problem, they seemed to actually try to contact tech and not give me the typical response from there prewritten list of solutions to problems. Never happened before ever until last week.
Anyone else find this to be a problem please post. I have found a few other people who have had issues since the same time I started having problems. None of my season premiers recorded, but this week some of them did and others did not, and next week, those that didn't record this week are recording and the ones that recorded this week aren't. |

| reply to dennis1x36 I've had the same non-recording problem appear with the new fall season as well. A simple delete and re-add of series recordings hasn't helped, and I haven't had the chance to troubleshoot any further. I, too, am trying to record the local HD channels, primarily 363 and 375. |

| reply to dennis1x36 I am having the exact same problem with my DVR as well. I setup a new series recording for the new Jay Leno show on the HD channel(363 I believe) that started on 09/14/09. The DVR worked just fine that week as that was the only series that I was recording that week. The week of 09/21/09 when the other series recording was supposed to work, did not. It has been it or miss with all of them including the new series recording (Jay Leno). I have been having to manually set each episode that I plan on recording that day by going to the exact time slot and channel and tell it to record. If I go into the series recording info for that particular show, it shows the settings are there, but will not show the series recording icon when I confirm. Only after manually setting that particular time slot to record will the one time recording icon show up. |

A lot of shows set up for series recording are not recording every show. The software on the DVR is so buggy that I am no longer surprised when it fails to set a recording. I always check the future recording for the next day and only consider the series recording function a back-up recording function in case I forget.
Sometimes even that doesn't work. I recall recently when a forced reset (it was a Wednesday) caused my series recording for that day to not work. Realizing this, I manually set the recording, and STILL it didn't record the show when it aired. What a piece of crap.
Want to crash your DVR? Try setting a series recording for "COPS" or "Law & Order". Because either show airs so often between all the channels, the DVR will crash trying to figure out what to do, even though you tell it to record on one specific channel.
And because some cable shows (e.g. "Mad Men") aren't labeled as "Repeat" in the guide, the series recording will record it every friggin' time it airs. Alternatively, you always have to leave a copy of the show on your DVR and delete it manually after the next episode airs. Ridiculous.
And don't forget how long the DVR sometimes waits before it responds to a command. It's like dealing with a stubborn child. So frustrating.
