Free/Open Source CD Writer

I am in the process of installing Linux Ubuntu in my machine but I don't have a CD writer that would allow me to burn it. I mean, I have Nero but I disliked this product so much that ended up uninstalling it.

So what are the best free products out there.

Thx

You want to burn an installation disk in Windows, in order to install Ubuntu, right?

So you're going to need a Windows program. I'd say you could try any of the alternatives suggested by Kilroy See Profile. In fact, I don't suppose that many of us over here have a lot of knowledge about CD burning software for Windows...

While I can understand your desire to find freeware for this task, and presumably some of Kilroy See Profile's suggestions are freeware, I don't know that it's worth trying to find actual free software (I mean, open-source type software) just to burn a CD on Windows...I don't know that there is anything like that, actually, but maybe someone else does.

If you have XP go with ISO Recorder.
It does exactly what it says and that is all it does.

I have also tried DeepBurner with no problems.

For less than $10, you can buy the CDs ready made and go from there.

Re: Free/Open Source CD Writer

I have used nothing but Nero for years. Love it. You could always just install it long enought to burn the disc, and then erase it...

CDBurner XP Pro works flawlessly. It is freeware and is what I install on any Winders machine I come across that needs burning software. I highly recommend it.

Better yet, why dont you just have ubuntu ship you the disk for FREE!! Thats right folks, FREE.

go here: »https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

You just have to create a account first. I did it and had them ship me 5 cds to pass around to friends.

Windows won't do an ISO without special software. There is an ISO burner out there, but it is easier just to grab deep burner, and go.
