Would it be too much....

...to think that maybe somewhere someone along the line at AOL thought the leak of this data may cause such an outcry for privacy that this might be the outcome?

heh, probably. if it sounds too good to be, it probably is.

At least there might be good derived from all of this.

However, part of me wants some of these people to be red flagged - kiddie porn, how to's on killing/covering up?

The problem with that is, when/where do we draw the red flag line. For one porn is legal, so if someone wants to search for old granny on preggers porn, well, ok - that's legal, unfortunately.

Maybe red-flagging key phrases like "pre-teen sex"....the problem lies in the fact that we all know data will probably be collected and abused, and who's to say John Smith who has a shoe fetish (perfectly legal) wont be extorted/blackmailed on down the road when he wants to run for office.

I don't know, you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. I for one, don't mind my Googles recorded if it puts a kiddie porn dude in jail.
