Re: ( TV ) MRDVR is here!!

I just ordered the MRDVR service today. I currently have two HD DVR boxes and one regular 2500 STB. A couple of questions:

1) I don't see 'Recorded TV' in the menu for the 2500 STB. I have tried rebooting all boxes in the house. Do I need to do anything else? Did anyone else have to reboot? Did you just order and then see the menu item appear on your 2500 box(es)?

2) Does it still work if you have two DVRs in the house? How does it know which one to use as the DVR 'server'? Maybe this is why I don't see the menu option in the 2500 menu.

3) If I can get this working, it's promising technology. However, a couple of 'must have' features that are still missing:

*HD streaming to HD STB.
*Ability to add/modify recording schedules from any box. I don't want to give up the ability to schedule a recording from any TV.

Thanks in advance for any help!!

Only one DVR can act as the hub from which you can stream recorded content. I had the same problem as you. Nothing showed on the 2500. It was pointing to a DVR that had nothing recorded on it. I had to call VZ to get them to make the switch (via a code push). They did not ask me at the time of order which box I wanted it on and I did not know I had to specify. It was the first day it became available though.

Thanks,

I called Verizon and the problem was that they had configured the DVR, but they hadn't updated the 2500 STB to include the 'Recorded TV' menu. They updated that box and now everything works.

My initial impressions - a very good start. The audio/video is clean and stutter-free. Biggest issues are still:

1) Can't schedule recordings on any box
2) Can't stream HD
3) Can't pause/rewind Live TV (not easy to solve)

Two other things. First of all, the Verizon rep told me that I'd have to pay $50 for someone to come out and switch my second DVR box for a 2500 STB. That's really lame. Is there any way around this? I'm supposed to be SAVING money with the multi room DVR.

Second, the TiVO Series 3 should be released any day now. It supports CableCards, so it will work with FiOS. Only question is whether it will have any multi-room capabilities.

The word is that MRV will be enabled on the Series 3 TiVo. Can't imagine why it wouldn't be. The issue of streaming HD to a non HD TiVo will also likely be an issue.

@63.118.x.x

I remember that the Series 2 TiVOs 'kind of' had multi room viewing. I say 'kind of' because you had to actually transfer the recorded file from one DVR to another, rather than just streaming it. This is a big difference, especially because the Series 2 network connection (10 Mbps) couldn't keep up with realtime streaming anyway. It took hours to transfer an hour long show.

Also, by transferring the file rather than streaming it, you now have to worry about deleting old shows in multiple places. Just kinda awkward. Streaming from one box is the way to go.

Anyway hopefully that's improved in the Series 3.....

Cancelled the media manager multiroom dvr service after a couple calls to verizon

issues
1) shows recorded on Discovery channel are all pixelated - cant see them
2) some channels don't let you FF or rewind some don't
3) Cant delete shows once you watch them
4) Its the nearly same price as 2 dvrs why bother
5) accessing the pictures and music from your PC is cheesy - only shows a few of each
6) The Customer service doesn't know ANYTHING about how its supposed to work
7) cant pause live TV
8) cant see HD recordings

Comments -
The verizon router is NOT required - They tried to tell me that I had network speed issues or signal issues that were causing the pixelation - my bet is its DRM that's getting in the way...

Verizon tech attempted to fix issues by replacing router, replacing the nid, replacing the coax terminations, replacing the splitter at the ONT. Nothing made any difference.

IM happier with the second DVR
Doug

NEW DVR is -2 model that seems to be more sensitive to the remote - The -1 basically requires you to aim right at the DVR to change channels

Question:

Now that I have the MRDVR service, I no longer need two DVR boxes in the house. Do I HAVE to pay Verizon $50 to come out and swap my second DVR for a 2500 STB?

Anyone else manage to get Verizon to trade out boxes for free? They told me they have to charge $50 because it's a service 'downgrade'. In reality, I 'upgraded' to the MRDVR service and no longer need the second DVR....

@verizon.net
Answered my own question - just call and explain that you're switching out boxes because of the MRDVR service, and they should come out at no charge to exchange the boxes....

I just had them pickup a DVR and a STB, no fee, no complaints and it was a down grade for sure, I did not replace them with anything.
(two roommates moved out and with them, two tv's)

Well, just upgraded to MRDVR and took 2 tries to get the upgrade to take. Now none of my HD channels work. Tried to reset the STB and router, but nothing is working. Of course the Fios service center is closed. Not real smooth so far.

Hey toolman12, the FSC is open 24 hrs a day... especially for video. If you need help you should call them at 1-888-553-1555

Something goofy about the FSC here in my area is not open 24 hrs a day. I tried the 888-553-1555 number before and get a recording that it's closed. The Verizon rep I spoke with today told me to call 800-450-9648 but they are closed also.
