Looking for shared hosting that lets me bring my own DNS

I humbly request the forum's assistance in finding a web host.

I am looking for a really basic web host with the following requirements:

- I already pay for DNS service, I don't want to be forced to use the web host's DNS (à la 1 & 1)

- I already have the domain I want to use, so I don't need or want and domain registration service, nor do I want to change registrars.

- I need PHP support. MySQL would be nice to have, but it's not a hard requirement.

My disk and traffic requirements are very low, and uptime isn't a huge concern. The site is just basically family photos and crap like that, so a couple of hours of downtime here and there isn't a huge deal. The site is currently hosted on an old computer in my basement that is doing double duty as my mail server all running off my cable modem. My plan is to move the web stuff off to a third party host and keep the mail here at home.

Cheap is good, since I'm not making any money off of the site, I'm not looking to spend a lot on it.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Looking for shared hosting that lets me bring my own DNS

Without recommending any specific webhost - I can tell you that just about any host you find will permit you to bring your own DNS services. I have an email in my inbox right now from 1and1 that said I can use my own DNS and still use their hosting services. So I can recommend you just do some searches for some cpanel hosts - and you should be good to go. Many people here seem to recommend »www.surpasshosting.com but in all fairness I have never used them and therefore have no opinion. I hope this helps!

I use surpass with my own DNS servers and registrar...it's a non-issue. You'll find that there's a good number of folks who post here (myself included) that both use and recommend them for hosting.

They meet your requirements and you can get a shared hosting account for $6/month which includes PHP and MySQL.
