| Any idea when it's being deployed in the Chattanooga area? I've searched this site and Google and found nothing. The online techs don't know, either.
How is Comcast alerting customers when it's available and they should reboot their modems? |

They send out some small fliers letting you know plus they pass TV commercials about powerboost in your area.
It isn't that great at all IMO. It is just a useless gimmick they have to lure ignorant customers who really will believe the speed will be blazing fast. I'm not really seeing any use or benefit for it at all other than I get to be the front page of Comcast's fastest speeds. |

said by rjackson : How is Comcast alerting customers when it's available and they should reboot their modems? There is an announcement on my most recently received bill which says:
quote: You just got a BIG boost! Introducing powerboost, a new feature now included in your Comcast High Speed Internet service. powerboost gives you an extra burst of speed for faster downloads up to 12 Mbps. See your Comcast e-mail account for detils.
Mind you, this powerboost feechur is not the most exciting thing in my life and I have paid little attention ... but you're a nice guy so I thought I would check my email just to see. ;)
I almost missed it, but finally did see a tiny hint in a recent email with this subject line: Comcast Northwest August's Guide to your High-Speed Internet Service
The hint says:
quote: Comcast Introduces powerboost Only from Comcast High-Speed Internet. more
If I happen to see that hint and click on more
, I see this:
quote:
Comcast Introduces powerboost, only from Comcast High-Speed Internet.
An extra burst of speed for faster downloads! Comcast customers on our 6.0 Mbps and 8.0 Mbps plans can experience an extra burst of speed when doing things like downloading large files
all at no additional cost!
Music, videos, software, online games whenever you're downloading something big powerboost kicks right in. Imagine, for example, you were downloading a 10 Mb file (about the size of three MP3 songs). It would take about 53 seconds with 1.5 Mbps DSL, but just 6.6 seconds with Comcast High-Speed Internet with powerboost.
And the best news of all? Its all part of the package and only from Comcast. To get the powerboost upgrade immediately, simply disconnect the power to your modem for 30 seconds to fully reboot, or press the "Reset" button on your eMTA. For more information on rebooting your equipment to receive powerboost, go to »www.comcast.com/Support/Corp1/FA···699.html.
Compatible cable equipment is required to receive powerboost enhancement. powerboost speed claims and all speed references are for downloads only. powerboost is only available with Comcast's 6Mbps/8Mbps speed plans. Maximum upload speeds of 384Kbps/768Kbps depending on service plan. powerboost works by temporarily providing brief bursts of download connection speed above the provisioned 6Mbps or 8Mbps download speed for the first 10MB or 20MB of a file download respectively. It then reverts to your provisioned speed for the remainder of the download. Many factors affect speed, such as the condition of the wiring at your location, computer configuration, equipment, Internet and network congestion, and the speed of the website servers you access, among other factors. Actual speeds, including powerboost speeds, will vary and are not guaranteed. Features and services subject to change.
I have the 8000/768 tier. This supposedly just happened. Here's what it looks like here (Washington State):

| I chatted with Comcast Help yesterday and they had no info about when powerboost would be available in San Francisco. For being one of the most tech centric cities in the world it sure takes a long time for us to get the good stuff. Bummer. |

| I'm pretty sure powerboost is in the Lansing, Michigan area. Last week I was downloading a large file & noticed download speeds over 3Mb/s for a short bit, then dropped down to the normal 900kb/s-1MB/s download speed. |

I cancelled mine and went back to the 6 meg tier to see what would happen, and this is what i get now.

| reply to sortofageek That's the most I've seen in over a month of testing like this a couple times here and there. there was a long time ago I'd see over 15000k before powerboost on a consistant basis. in downloading however the speed goes at the beginning of a file and maybe one time of 100 files at most 1.5mB/sec for a tiny bit then normal 900kB - 1100kB/sec.
Doesn't look like powerboost to me.

1 edit | reply to sortofageek I'v been getting it on the gold tier for a a few weeks. However best result were out of SF or LA due to some strange routing. yesterday Seattle started being at the top, though the pings vary from 28-60ms URL=http://www.speedtest.net] [/URL] |
