Re: Mediacom Pensacola Fl area opinions please!

I can't compare Mediacom's service to Comcast's service, but I will give you my opinion. I can compare Mediacom to Cox Communications (which you could have if you moved a little further west), which was stellar imo (at least in the Omaha area). I've had Mediacom service in the Gulf Breeze (Navarre) area for about a year now and had numerous problems throughout the year. The initial difficulties were most likely due to the hurricanes that rolled through last year. However, I've had several intermittent outages since that time with little or no explanation from customer service. The outages encompass everything from phone to Internet to the DTV with VOD. I only have phone because my wife "insists" that we have a home phone in addition to two cell phones. And the DTV and VOD will be going away in another month when our 12 month intro pricing expires.

Customer service is mediocre at best, imo. I'd estimate that about 80% of the customer service reps that I've spoken (I've probably averaged about one call/month) to don't know how and/or don't care to troubleshoot customer issues. Mediacom is quick to roll a truck for every single little thing. My guess is that if a tech doesn't want to, or doesn't know how to help, their escalation mechanism is to roll a truck to "pass the problem" and move on to the next customer.

Management-wise, Mediacom appears to lack real direction and vision. Mediacom has flip-flopped so many time regarding their "Max" service that I've lost count. Additionally, the lack of dissemination of information within the Mediacom organization is severely lacking from my perspective. I'm amazed how the company can release new products and several months after the release, several customer service reps are ignorant of procedures or requirements. There appears to be no top-down push of information.

Service-wise, when things work, they generally work as advertised. Unfortunately, the service hasn't worked too many times for my liking, especially considering how much money I would be paying for service if I wasn't in the 12-month intro window. I think Mediacom is behind the times as far as their service offerings, but I realize there's no real incentive for them to upgrade or expand because they have no real competition in a lot of their service areas. Even in our area, our choice is BS for internet which is overpriced and under-serviced imo.

Welcome to the area. I don't know if I've really answered your question, so feel free to ask again if need be.
