[TWC] Any Queens NY Premium users with speed upgrades ???

Is there anyone out there in Queens, NY with Premium RR service that has gotten the new speed upgrades and what are they. Hope it will be 10/1 for premium. I am in Glendale, Queens.

Thanks

If you check the Network Status, you'll see that there are a lot of planned maintances for the days coming. That list gets updated daily, so tomorrow, you shall see more maintances. When the upgrades started, we had those maintances. I think they first started upgrading Standard RR, and are now moving on to upgrading RR Premium. I think that before Sept. 1, RR Premium shall be 10/1.

I hope this is true. I am now paying approx. $25/month extra for what is now considered "standard service". It would have been nice to give a higher priority to the Premium service subsribers, but as long as there is a premium level of service once the upgrade is completed, I'll be happy. TWC will lose the additional $$'s they are collecting for this service if they drag their feet.

Regards...JL

My Feelings exactly. I have a cable bill sitting on my desk right now and if they do not up my premium service they will be getting a partial payment this month.

and now you know why there have been NO public announcements of 'upgrades.'

Time Warner MUST compete with FIOS. I know for a fact that Optimum Online in Brooklyn has been upgraded to 15MBs down and 2MBs up! And their premium service ($10/month more) is 30MBs down and 2MBs up! Not bad, eh? And I know that Optimum Online has a better network than Verizon..at least for now...better peering agreements and backend 'stuff.' RR is the same..and I think has an even BETTER backend network than Optimum. Unfortunately for NYC, the density is SO high that if all of the modems got uncapped, within a week, our service would degrade SO much we'd want to switch to someone else. Ever since cable IP service got rolled out in Queens 5 years ago, it seems to have improved slowly and steadily, getting faster and cleaner along the way. Don't get me wrong, there are problems, but when it works, it's a great service.

As to whether or not Premium subscribers will get higher download speeds...? I have no idea. My guess is yes, but it's going to have to wait until there's enough bandwidth and node-splitting to handle the higher download bandwidth requirements. I bet everything will change VERY much within the next 6 months as FIOS will certainly be online in all of Queens by then. I'm definitely going to try them out...but I don't have high expectations since Verizon's network is just too young.

You'll sad to know there is no upgrade for premium service I have heard about. So far TWC has only announced a speed upgrade for standard subscribers.

Maybe something is in the works for premium service however I have yet to hear anything about details.

Here ya go. I posted in another thread, but I thought I should duplicate it here.

Time Warner has posted NEW speeds for both it's regular and premium customers.

Goto:

Regular customers will now be 5MBs down and 512Kbps up.
Premium customers will now be 8MBs down and 512Kbps up.

Oh..and as Time Warner states, 'UP TO' those amounts, not guaranteed those amounts. Just read what they have to say.

But there's definitely posted upgrades for all customers.

No. That page is quite outdated. That was when they did the upgrade from 3.0 to 5.0.
Regular customers have been 5.0/384 for a LONG time.
Premium customers have been 8.0/512 for a LONG time.

The new speeds are:
Regular = 7.0/512
Premium = ???/???? Rumors are 10/1

Really? Hmm...wasn't aware.

Well, I suppose 4,800kbps translates to 5MBs.

So it SHOULD be 7MBs? I'm getting approximately a MAX of 5,300kbps. Don't think that translates anywhere NEAR 7MBs, but the upload has improve drom 356kbps to 478kbps. Still, neither is what you're saying.

Dunno if the continuous nightly issues are aimed at dealing with the new speeds, but...eh..whatever.

All I know is that Optimum Online customers are getting 15MBs down and 2MBs up and that blows RR out of the water.

NYC is going to take a long time to get to those levels, I think. Even FIOS may not do it...

My guess it that there is NO official upgrade yet. We'll probably get an announcement sometime in the next month or two, once the problems are gone. Otherwise, every single customer can scream bloody hell that he/she isn't getting the new speeds. Right now, that'd be more than half the customers.

I'll ask my inside contact on Monday and see if she can offer up any information.

Right. Cablevision upgraded all of their customers to 15/2. Its been a few months now.
They (TWC) have no direct competition from Cablevision, so, they dont care.

Yeah, but I imagine that the upgrade from Cablevision was due to competition from Verizon's FIOS.

Should be an interesting year.

What is the story with premium upgrades??? Still nothing.
I have not been able to change my IP address. Can someone tell me how to do this? I have a Linksys router and have done release/renew IP, but I always come back with same IP.

To obtain a new IP address from RR, power off the CABLE MODEM for 5-10 minutes and power it back up. Reset your Linksys so it can obtain the IP (if it changed at all).

Hope this helps....JL
