Anyone know about Community College Broadband?

I notice most of the posts here seem to be from people going to a University and not CC but im curious if anyone can answer a few questions for me.IM signed up for the fall semester and am not sure what to expect broadband wise or the way it works.I know the school uses wifi and has hotspots for people to use throughout the campus.Im not sure if its something I have to login each time and agree to terms or If its just ready to go do whatever i want.My real question is im going to have some time in between classes and browsing the net would be a great time killer.I don't know if this is something that they would let me do.Can you just browse the net?.
Another thing is p2p programs and general browsing even..How do they know what im doing and how would they find me to tell me to stop.I really don't think i would p2p but i know i would want to look around the net to whatever page i want and not worry about if its a safe page.I just don't see how they could stop somebody for p2p use or looking at myspace.com or whatever.
Im new to college and new to wifi connections as you can tell from my post here.I just hope to understand a few things before i get there. Thanks for any information.

I can't imagine any institution like a community college not having internet browsing capability on thier system. I also can't imagine that they would prevent you from browsing, especially in between classes. At U of M we have occasional profs that won't allow laptops in class because they're a destraction, but that's a whole other story.

If they want to prevent you from doing something they will se it up so that nobody can do that something. P2P, for example, runs on a specific port. They can block that port at their router or use a type of proxy set up to prevent certain applications from running and reaching the internet. They can also block individual website [myspace], IP's or entire subnets if they want to. Once you sign on to the system it will become clear very quickly what you can and cannot do.
