When you turn off the modems DHCP, it is for the internal private network. You want to turn it off so that the Linksys can handle internal DHCP. That has nothing to do with the Verizon side DHCP. In a nutshell, Verizon uses DHCP to assign your modem an Ip on their network, and in turn your modem uses it's DHCP to assign the individual pc's on your network Ip's. If you don't turn it off you will have both the modem and the router trying to give out ip's to the pc's (and each other) on your home network, which could confuse the hell out of everthing. |
