Put the two of you together on this thing, and it's akin to an unstoppable force of nature. A thing extremely powerful, yet incredibly beautiful in its grace and simplicity. | reply to bcool said by bcool :As everybody already knows there are two Adblock Plus es, Wladimir's and the other one. I couldn't decide so I run Adblock Plus 0.7.1.2 on one XP account and Adblock Plus 0.5.11.4 on another. If 0.7.2 does in fact come out fumigated, I'll likely use it across the board. Thanks for heads up! Just a quick summary of what the Adblock Plus 0.5 version DOSEN'T do.
* It doesn't allow multiple filters to exist separately and work in harmony.
* It doesn't allow FULL element hiding.
* It doesn't run as efficently as 0.7.
* It doesn't allow 'enable/disable' buttons for any INDIVIDUAL filter string or subscription list.
* It doesn't get 'feature' developements anymore ... only bug patches.
MCM's Adblock Plus 0.5 series was a terrific upgrade to the original, but he has since passed it off to Wladimir Palant .. who (unlike the others now) has been working his butt off on it almost everyday and has improved the whole adblocking thing immensely .. that is EXACTLY why I took my EasyList filters to HIM!

| reply to rick752 Very very nice extension -- just discovered it. I just replaced all my Filterset.G+Adblock setups with this.

You are correct and a user can change it in about:config.

That option has been eliminated in the branch's new options panel they are working on. Thank GOD!! It messes up to many sites to be of value. But you can still use it by setting a prefs in about:config (I think I read you could anyway).
I'm sure you already know this, but I thought I'd post it anyway.. mostly because I'm happy about it. |

| reply to rick752 Installed, Plus is definitely better than the standard adblock.
Even the default filter subscriptions do a good job (blocks most ads, blocks intellitext, etc).. I haven't gotten around to trying out the Filterset updater extension, but I really don't even think I need it. |

| reply to Grail Knight said by Grail Knight :I was just razzing you. I am surprised the Element Filter has not been added to the subscription choices for the default install. I can think of a couple of reason why they would not be for everyone but I have yet to run into any site issues. Wladimir is a bit nervous about promoting ANY element filters at all because the false-positives can usually only be tracked down by the authors ... they don't show up in the 'blockable items' list and generally, give you absolutely no clue that something is being blocked (actually elements are only hidden).
I think he is a bit afraid that people will blame the ADP program for blocking things that are not his fault ... it happens all the time already just for regular ads.
Unfortuately for Wladimir (and for me) people usually blame the program and/or the filters a LOT of times for things that are almost always the user's fault in the end. They usually include bad filter additions ... filter lists not supported by us ... people using the other Adblock/Adblock Plus versions ... (and my favorite) people who blame ABP for blocking EVERYTHING because they checked the 'Allow images from the originating site only' box in Firefox.
I don't think Wladimir needs the '3rd dimension' of trying to explain an errant element block that he endorsed. That would be MY job! -- Adblock Plus EasyList / EasyElement Filters |

Exciting to hear about the abp: subscription links. Good idea as Custom Buttons does something similar for toolbar buttons. |

As close as I work with the ADP project, someone here ALWAYS beats me to the release on this forum (as GK will attest).
This time, I was determined . I happened to be reading a post on the ADP forum when Wladimir posted that he had released it right in the topic that I was reading.
