Re: Adblock Plus 0.7.1.2 Released

And here's the best part (at least to me). Try this ... I made a couple of 'subscribe' links on my forum (not to mean that you should use my filters ... just a new feature example):

EDIT: Clarification that I'm not trying to spam

Why would I want to subscribe again?

I know you need an ego massage.

Actually, this feature makes it easier for other filter-makers who are NOT included with the Adblock Plus install (and for my element filter). These filter links can work from anywhere ... for anyone.

I was just razzing you.

I am surprised the Element Filter has not been added to the subscription choices for the default install.

I can think of a couple of reason why they would not be for everyone but I have yet to run into any site issues.

Wladimir is a bit nervous about promoting ANY element filters at all because the false-positives can usually only be tracked down by the authors ... they don't show up in the 'blockable items' list and generally, give you absolutely no clue that something is being blocked (actually elements are only hidden).

I think he is a bit afraid that people will blame the ADP program for blocking things that are not his fault ... it happens all the time already just for regular ads.

Unfortuately for Wladimir (and for me) people usually blame the program and/or the filters a LOT of times for things that are almost always the user's fault in the end. They usually include bad filter additions ... filter lists not supported by us ... people using the other Adblock/Adblock Plus versions ... (and my favorite) people who blame ABP for blocking EVERYTHING because they checked the 'Allow images from the originating site only' box in Firefox.

I don't think Wladimir needs the '3rd dimension' of trying to explain an errant element block that he endorsed. That would be MY job!

That option has been eliminated in the branch's new options panel they are working on. Thank GOD!! It messes up to many sites to be of value. But you can still use it by setting a prefs in about:config (I think I read you could anyway).

I'm sure you already know this, but I thought I'd post it anyway.. mostly because I'm happy about it.

You are correct and a user can change it in about:config.
