Re: upgrading emachines ram

Memory can not work in some motherboards even if supported. Can be a number of reasons but it happens with most if not all motherboards. For some reason the motherboard is not compatible with the memory...

I wonder if the eMachines web site has a list of compatible memory and if not - Crucial has a app that can tell you which one of their modeules is compatible...: »www.crucial.com/

Are you sure the RAM is any good?
Umm yea im positive, I just removed the ram from my current PC because i upgraded to 2gb of hyperx ram, so i know it works, it just came out of my system.

Will it post if you take the pc2700 out and just boot with the pc3200?
Nope doesnt post with just the pc3200.

Ill check the bios for any settings like that, not sure what kind of memory settings an emachines bios will have though.

Its just regular enhanced mushin memory. Really dont understand these emachines.

If not, go into bios and see if there is a setting to disable something like "SPD" auto detect and set it manually to the closest setting the board has. It may be the board tops out at 2700 and yours is 3200 so you need to manually adjust it.

The same problem can occur with incompatible cas latency. Disabling auto-detect in the bios sometimes helps.

It just might be that the JEDEC on it won't show compatibility to the BIOS etc. of the motherboard. It is easier to get slower RAM/Earlier Revision RAM to work on newer boards than the other way around. Plus that is an emachine, and they CAN be a PITA, BTW.

OK heres the deal, I was trying to upgrade my moms emachine pc with some more memory because the thing only came with 256mb of pc2700 ddr mem. Anyway I had some left over mushkin pc3200 and figured it should work, its faster memory so why wouldnt it. Popped in the memory and nothing happens just hear 3 long beeps and the system doesnt post at all.

I can pop in the other memory still and itll boot back up, question is why? Is it only compatably with 2700 memory or is there some other trick I can do? Do I have to buy only memory from emachines? Its a model t3624.
