Reason for moving from Zoomtown to Road Runner

I had Zoomtown ever since it was offered. Back then RR and ZT seemed pretty equal. But my speed has not been that good. Upload was good at about 620 up and about 1.5 to 1.7 down. Plus you had to have the Complete Connections package to get ZT for $40 a month.

Recently I started investigating VOIP and RR. A friend told me that RR Business Class was much better with better support and better speed. Vonage VOIP seemed pretty attractive at $25 a month with unlimited long distance and all the options like call forwarding, voice mail, caller ID, etc.

So I called TW and priced a 768up and 6Mb down at only $59 a month and it includes a static IP.

The CBT bill was $80 a month. So with RR BC and Vonage the bill would come to about $85 a month. Needless to say, I started the switch. Zoomtown gone and RR installed. Great speed and slightly better upload. Vonage works great on it also.

I have just been disappointed that CBT does not offer VOIP like Vonage (AT&T and Verizon do) and you have to have a phone line for ZT. CBT had not been upgrading their speed to compete with RR and here in Cincinnati we pay some of the highest costs in the nation for broadband. Friend in St. Louis pays $20 a month.

Times change and when better service and better pricing comes along, it's time to move. I can always come back when and it CBT becomes competitive agains.

i am also jumping to rr soon, i've been with cincinnati bellevery since they took over zoomtown. i've also been with zoomtown since 98. but now days i am disapointed in them totally. they promised iptv afew years ago but that never happened instead they partered up with direct tv also they had 2 years to upgrade there speeds and bring back there faster tier. adelphia/rr/sbc/inside r all within the area that cincinnati bell offers dsl but they all offer faster download speeds at the same price or less.

i give up with cincinnati bell they can no longer provide what i need. usenet maxes out this 3 meg connection that cincinnati bell gives but it's far too slow tv eps range from 350-850 megs, movies range from 650-1500 megs, dvds range from 4000-8000 megs, games range from 1500-6000 megs now days. but it takes almost 20 minutes to download 350 megs thats just too slow

i've called rr up yesterday and they offer 8 mbits 512 kbit for $44/mo and 60/mo after 6 month promotion + basic digital phone for $40/mo cincinnati bell charges me about $100/mo for 3/952 + phone service lol.

Not me.. i get 6mb down with zoomtown and 768 up.. all solid on downloads.. only thing i hate is they have better ping rates to my game servers at RR:( but for the price, speed and everything else i'll stick to zoomtown.. yes i had RR when it first came to the norwood area.. max i could download was 25.. after no adjustments and bad service from RR.. i told them to come get it. I'll never go back to RR.. iptv. no complaints there not like everyone else is doing iptv.. still in testing and i can wait soon it will be HDTV only. so who cares if its all digital.. if it aint 1080 .. it aint tv
ps if you dont have 6mb down.. i bet after first of year everyone gets it

damn 6mb down, im still at 3mbit here? Are you in testing or something?

@fuse.net

yea its testing.. had a problem with a phone jack not filtered and it was killing my upload.. called and the woman tested line and said it was my end.. then she said let me see if i can up your line without kicking out.. she did and it stayed then she said let me try the max.. she did and it stayed..seems alot of sites run less than 10mb.. newsgroups and main sites are only ones that max out 6mb download speed it seems. i remember back when they were upgrading to 3mb.. seems the ones that called got upgraded.. after friends got zoomtown (cuz i said its better that RR) they were starting at 3mb.. so i called and they said.. opps.. seems you were missed.. right then it was upped to 3mb... maybe a call to the help line and ask for a line test might get up upgraded.. if not maybe a beg.. lol only gripes i have lately is it seems the web slows down.. just webpages were taking a bit to load.. but downloads from news etc were fine.. on news.. need to open 2-4 connections to max out the line. one that i would like to see fixed if there is a way.. would be for ping rates.. i lose alot of hops for deltaforce2 online.. different servers diff hops lost.. rarely find one with 0 loss

So I need to break mine, and see if they fix it?

@fuse.net

lol.. no.. just call the help line.. ask them to test your line cuz you thought you were having some download problems. make sure they test the upload also.. tell them sometimes it would go good other it was slow.. make something up.. then just shoot the breeze with the tech...ask whats next.. any upgrades comming? hows iptv going? i hear your trying a 6mb test.. is it in my area? can you bump me to the 6mb test. they might say no.. but who cares.. they also might do it.. I would kinda late.. 11pm or so.. as far as breaking.. think if you plug a phone in without a filter that might show slow speeds to them
