PLEASE KINDLY READ THE POSTS IN THIS THREAD CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU POST ASKING QUESTIONS! If you don't and still post asking unrelated questions, this thread will become long and cluttered with unrelated subjects that are very unpleasant to read. So, let's K.I.C.S (Keep It Clean and Simple).

I have attached some snapshots of the missing pages of a DLink VTA-VR for you to digest.

A preliminary investigation through an SSH login to a DLink VTA-VR reveals that this device is ALMOST (edited) identical to a Linksys PAP2-V2 and it has 8/16MB Flash/RAM. I believe asterisk can be ported to this device, too! .

Has anyone tried to unlock a VTA-UV (the Vonage locked version available in the UK) using cyt30.exe?

The post here »CYT Device: Unlocking Information mentions the -VR device, however the Readme.txt inside the zip file doesn't mention any of VTA devices, and no mention of support for the -UV.

If just picked one up and will try it this evening, unless someone reckons this will brick it.

The -VR or -UV only means who it's programmed for. This won't affect the ability to unlock it using cyt30, if it does work on it. Please try it and let us know.

Ok, stumbled at the first hurdle.....

The only login password combination I have is user/user from the Vonage manual which does work but only gets me into the very limited web management interface (only two tabs "Home" and "Status").

When I run cyt30.exe I get the "Security Violation!" warning so I guess this login isn't sufficent to allow it to work.

Is there another higher level login (tried admin/admin and Admin/Admin)?

Update
Some further info, setting a new password doesn't seem to take, it always reverts to user/user regardless what I set it to.

I also discovered there is an sshd process running, but with a valid login and password it's not much use just now (user/user doesn't work).

I thought I'd open the unit up and take a picture of the internals, as expected the major components are exactly the same as the PAP2 v2.0.

For me the question begs - can the firmware be swapped?

I won't recommend to do that unless you want to risk bricking your VTA-VR. Just for the sake of safety, do a check on the outputs of cat /proc/mtd and cat /proc/tic/env on each device to see if they are identical. If they are, then we need to find out if the program runs on one device can also run smoothly on the other (I tested a simple program ported to a PAP2v2 also runs on a VTA-VR without a problem). Otherwise, you will be risking your VTA-VR to get stuck in process of booting.

BTW, has anyone noticed a VTA-VR will keep rebooting if none of the Line is registered to any VoSP?

same findings as meister_sd
basically, can login with

l: user
p: user

but can't change the password. using cyt30.exe doesn't help and i get a "security violation" just like meister_sd. sshd seems to be running but denies access with user/user username+password combo. pretty much stuck at this point. where to go from here?

Hi there,
I have just purchased a VTA-UV in the UK ? Any luck with getting the CYT tool working to unlock a VTA or is the user/pass still an issue.
Thanks

From information I gathered... it is in development. Stay tuned!

With rcilink's help, I've established that the "Support/tivonpw" login password combination won't work until you let Vonage provision the VTA-UV.

However even when this done cyt30.exe still gives a 'Security Violation!' error. Support for the VTA-UV is, I understand, being worked on.

This username/password combination is assigned by Vonage; therefore, you MUST have your VTA-VR provisioned by Vonage in order to use such a combination. Just to be on a safe side, please don't let Vonage provision your VTA-VR unless you want to you it with a Vonage service. Who knows what Vonage will do to your VTA-VR!

OP, can you tell us how to ssh login VTA-VR? Thanks

My VTA-UV (not -VR) is now unlocked thanks to one of the great folks on here (I won't publically name in case it's sensitive). Don't ask me how it was done as I enabled remote access for the process to be carried out. The cyt tool would not do it.

It may be a prerequisite that the box has to be provisioned by Vonage to enable logins other than user/user. Mine was and I was able to login to the web interface as "Support" but cyt still wouldn't have any of it.

Maybe that unlock process will eventually make it's way into a new release of the cyt tool, I don't know.

Welcome to the club . At least for the moment, your patience had paid off. Now, it is time to get challenged to play around with your device.

Mazillo, I think it was you who said Asterisk on this box would be a killer. I can't agree more. I had a hunt around the openwrt developer forum - saw your posts

Any progress? I'm not a programmer but anything I can do to help just ask.

That was me. But, at the moment it looks like I will get no help at all from the post I made there . Information on porting asterisk to a TI-AR7 platform is pretty limited, if not none at all, unfortunately.

I am no programmer too; however, I sure would like to get asterisk to run on a PAP2v2 and VTA-VR. My preference is to work on a PAP2v2. Once this is done, I will also work on my VTA-VR. With its very dimmed LEDs, this device seems to be a nice choice to put in a bedroom. They won't lite up the whole darkness of the room during the night, like a PAP2 and/or PAP2v2 does.

I may be able to point you in the right direction. Where are you stuck?

I also have a D-link VTA-UV in the UK, i have read all threads to the best of my knowledge and cant get into it. After reading sportq as managed to get his unlocked I am encouraged to post the question how did you do it?

Who has the answer, cuz its driving me round the bend not being able to get my Sipgate account up and running on it!

Any help would be great, i have tried all suggestions i could find including CYT 3 through my switch, router and straight forward connection to my LAN on the PC.

Tried SSH and obviously cant get in with user/user.

Any help would be great!

Barrie.
