said by jwx213 :The only way i got it to work was to use the serial console and the command fmt CONFIG_A if my memory is correct then fmt CONFIG_B Thanks for the info, I'll try it. Did you run those commands at the boot loader prompt or after the box has booted up ? From my understanding, the adapter keeps 2 versions of the firmware (and configuration). How can I tell which is the one in use ? And how can I make both the same ? |

| At the boot loader prompt, not after boot!
I formated both IMAGE_A + B and CONFIG_A + B. Then tftp'ed the firmware to IMAGE_A + B under serial console, Then did the SSH bit after that.
To check which image the box is booting from type either:
cat /proc/ticfg/env or printenv
Cant remember which without doing it! As long as you flash IMAGE_A + B under the serial console, it doesnt matter anyway, they will both be NA modded firmware
Before trying to TFTP firmware under serial console, dont forget to hex edit it as per rcilink's comments here : »Re: VTA failsafe - recovery options
Should sort ya box out! |

I tried this with VTA-11.4.0-r060331-1.00.08-r061127.img so far it is working. I see that the default vonage settings are gone which is great. I tried setting everything to default settings and still mine remain in /proc/ticfg/env and the corresponding webpage. I will see how it is in 24hrs as prior to trying this, it would reset to some defaults and my VoIP settings would be lost.
Thanks..... so far!
just wanted to make sure, the NA2a firmware that people are talking about, is in fact the one im using? VTA-11.4.0-r060331-1.00.08-r061127.img i did upgrade the firmware and the adapter said successful. ???? can someone confirm this? |

Make sure you downloaded off the Rapidshare link on the previous pages |

I flashed both images of the VTA last night from the boot loader, as well as I deleted both configurations. Then I tried again to set my own factory settings, but the only one that works is the Admin password, and that is from the web interface only (still doesn't work from SSH). The Admin password works for SSH only if I provision the adapter with an XML file. |

If they haven't done so, you may want to contact them to let them know about GPL licensing schemes. On any GPLed firmware package, it should include the Makefile scripts to package the compiled code into a firmware. You can take a look at and study on these Makefile(s) scripts and make your own script to extract/compress the code into a firmware. -- Mazi (UK Non-Geo Phone: +44-703-194-2574) |

| reply to jwx213 Re: vta 1.00.08 firmware
thanks jwx213. all seems ok, however now my digit map (dial map) doesnt seem to save. i set it via ssh
/usr/bin/dbgcmd MXP> show tcid 0 Dial In Parameters: Plar addr: None Digit Map: *xxT|*1xx|[349]11|1xxx[2-9]xxxxxx|[2-9]xxxxxxT|[2-9]xxxxxxxxx|011x.T
MXP> set tcid 0 dial_in digit_map *xxT|*1xx|[349]11|1xxx[2-9]xxxxxx|[2-9]xxxxxxT|[2-9]xxxxxxxxxx|011x.T MXP> OK MXP> commit MXP> OK MXP> activate MXP> OK
this dial plan works for me because i have to dial 9 before the area code and allows the last digit to be entered. however after a reboot, this digit map is lost. i have tried entering it in the web page via firefox and internet explorer and it still wont save after a reboot.

| said by scsikid : Guys, -I exposed my VTA to internet, -had it provisioned by vonage, -took it off the web -downgraded to f/w 1.00.7 -grabbed the encrypt code and the directory of .xml file -tftp-ed the .xml file from vonage and decrypted it with rc4 -I have the factory Admin password now and upgraded f/w to 1.008-NA provided by rclink (BTW thanx for that) -now the settings seem to stick in the voicebox, except the small technical parameters.
Now can someone help me to get rid off the 666 that the unit automatically dials after picking up of the hand set? If I understand it correctly from this forum, a modified .xml file needs to be uploaded to the unit. Is that correct? Why? I got this file from the vonage server. How would I want to change it and how would I want to push it to the VTA? |

| reply to scsikid does this happen to anyone else? after about 10 hours or so my vta-cv goes offline (not reachable) both configured phone 1 and phone 2 ports go offline. only a reboot by unplugging the device brings everything back to normal. i think i'll try a packet capture and see if i can notice any network activity going on the device before it fails. if anyone has any advise please let me know. |

| I think the 1.08-NA modded FW still needs messing with.
It doesnt do everything yet, and the problem with clearing factory defaults can be frustrating. I did my box by messing for hours until it saved.
As for tech settings in line 1 & 2 under the web interface, they dont save on my box at all.
I havent noticed it disconnect my lines though. Have 2 x Sipgate accounts setup in it and its been running for 14 days no problem.
I still think its a case of mess around and keep an eye out for FW changes. The box is good hardware and when working is great, the FW is slowly catching up with it! I had a D-Link wireless media player which had good hardware, but until people messed with its FW was useless.
Hang in there, it will get better.... |

| My guess:
- hook up the serial console cable, and leave a term program open...
- check the VTA often to see if it crashed.
- once crashed, scroll carefully thru the console messages.. It will tell you what it is doing and what happened.
For example: I have seen these devices attempt to 'default' to factory provision if they are not able to provision with new params. That said, if you are using that 1.00.08-NA, you can change default Factory Params-- that might keep it from changing SIP info on you.
Good Luck! |

said by rcilink :said by jwx213 :On a different subject, has anyone found a way or got any closer to installing PAP2v2 Firmware on the D-Link box as it would make setup so much easier than the D-Link pants firmware? Yes, it has been done. I will put some of the guidelines here if you dare to take similar steps with your equipment: You really need to have a serial console cable hooked to the device for this to succeed! 1. Crack open the D-Link VTA-VR and hook up your serial cable to your com port. Remember, it is 3.3v, so use the proper chip (dont just hook it up directly!) 2. On the D-Link VTA-VR, you can simply hit ESC (on the serial console session) when you first boot the device. This will give you the psbl prompt. 3. At this prompt, you will need to delete all flash partitions, except the bootloader (pspboot). 4. Create new partitions, matching the ones found on the Linksys PAP2 v2.0. 5. Add the needed ENV variables while using psp boot. This is important. Just copy them from a PAP2 v2.0 and change unique info (MAC, IP, etc.) to match D-Link VTA-VR. 6. On a PC or Linux box, hexedit the 1.00.13 .bin firmware file and change Location 0x000B byte from 0xFF to 0x17. (This will make psp boot take the file) 7. Use the psp boot TFTP option to load-up the firmware .bin file to the proper partion (there are 2 if you want a backup partition pre-loaded, you must load it). 8. set the PSPBOOT env variables to point to the proper boot partition (BOOT_CFG.. ) 9. Done. The hardware is mildly different, making the LEDs not work, so you do not get any blinky lights as you use the thing. But, the web interface works, and you can work away. Also, I dont remember the ADMIN_PWD being set.. You may need to set it to something. (It is a Unix passwd hash). NOTE: My testing did not include setting-up any SIP service on this VTA-VR running PAP2v2 firmware. At the time, that was not in the test schedule. If I have time, I will try it again and report results here. ------ rcilink or anyone out there, could someone tell me what are the PAP2 v2.0 environment settings? I would like to know about the partition on the PAP2 v2.0. I really want to play with loading the PAP2 v2.0 firmware on the DLINK. I want to be able to make create Quick Dial. Thanks |
