[CATV] [LA-New Orleans] Motororola DCT6416 III Continually Reboo

Having problems with this box again. Now, after a blackout this afternoon, the unit keeps rebooting every 5 to 15 minutes. I've already had someone on the tech support do a refresh, and it still doesn't work. Anyone else having this problem?

Swapping the box is the only way to resolve it to my knowledge.

Ugh. I have a bunch of Curb your Enthusiam episodes that I have yet to watch.

I called in a second time, and the tech this time told me that they were having problems with a lot of the DVR units rebooting, and to reset the box so that it would re-deownload the software. (It was: unplug the box, hold down the "menu" button on the box, plug it in, wait for the display to say "boot", push the down arrow three times until it said "c dl", then hit select. The box display now has a little spinning display with the letters "dl" on the side. The tech said it would take about 20 minutes to download software and settings and that this works about 70% of the time. He said if it didn't work now, a truck roll would be next. We'll see, oh well...

Edit: the procedure is listed here as a "DVR Authorization and Factory Full Reset."

Do you stll have the dvr? If you unhook the cable from the cable in on the back of the dvr and see if it will boot enough to watch what is stored on the hard drive.

Called a third time. This tech confirmed that the problem is not on my end since a lot of other people are having the same problem. She said "techs are working on it." For the time being, I'm just going to leave it unplugged and ask for a service credit. If I have to get rid of the box, I will try to just watch the recorded DVR content. We'll see...

Won't work. you'll just get an "advanced network capabilities unavailable" message. you have to tune to a DVR channel to watch the recorded content.

Worked on my 6412 phase 1. dvd536 do you have a Motorola dvr ?

Motorola dvr's work differently than SA's do. Moto's use passport echo for the software which has a list feature that brings up the recorded programs even with the cable in unplugged from the back of the box.

lets see...we replaced 2 SI 2000's a DVR (the new one is much smaller and can actually fit on my tv's stand in the bedroom)

and one more because it wouldn't pick up HD.

when you live in an area with storms like this you will have issues. you should get a surge protector (not a cheap $10 dollar wal mart one, either)

but if you get a direct hit nothing can and will protect you 100 percent.

I had the same issue a while back. It was a failed upgrade. They said the box was dead and returning a fatal error. The guy showed up, unplugged the box and let it boot up again and it worked. He didn't hit any buttons, he just let it do it's thing. You might try that, otherwise I would agree it is a dead box.

If it was a failed upgrade and you do what reelbigfish said it should work until cox tries to send the update again.

watch what you can and replace the dvr.

If it was a failed firmware update then cox cant try to re-do it. the box is most likely a brick. take it to cox and have it swapped out.

The failed firmware actually doesn't toast the dvr since it never finishes the download the dvr should work until the firmware update is pushed again.

Again dvd536 you don't have Motorola dvr, so you don't know how they work or the tricks to temp fix them.
