lseltzer join:2000-05-17 Fresh Meadows, NY 1 edit | Queens/NYC RR slow downs - gathering support ticket numbers Hi all.
I want to resolve this thing. We could ALL put complaints in to NYC for service issues, but rather than resort to that kind of thing, let me talk to my inside contact who became my contact because of my own complaint to NYC over a different issue.
If anyone has a ticket number for an open support - even close - issue related to HIGH pings/latency in the evenings in the NYC/Queens area - Fresh Meadows, Forest Hills, Flushing, Elmont, ANYONE in Queens who has the problem - please e-mail me your support ticket # if you can. Don't think we should post all of those...might be some kind of risk involved.
Anyway, my e-mail is larry@theseltzers.com. Please include the ticket #, and at least the part of Queens you are in - zip code is perfect. Also tell me when you opened the ticket - what date. This way, when I have the Time Warner rep. lookup the information, they'll be able to find it easily. I don't need any personal information.
I'm going to get at least 4 or 5 different people before going to my contact. I'll call her tomorrow morning anyway to get the ball rolling and let her know that I'll have a BUNCH of support tickets related to the issue, all in different parts of Queens. She isn't technical, but she CAN and WILL contact the right people. It is possible that no one is aware of the issue!
Based on previous posts, it's clear there's a problem in Queens at night that began sometime in mid-June and occurrs between the hours of 7PM and 1AM each evening. It's also clear that it does NOT happen to ALL NYC RR customers - Manhattan, Brooklyn, and some parts of Queens are not affected.
Thanks for your help! Hopefully we can resolve this issue or at the very least, find out why it's happening and get an ETA.
Regards,
Larry Seltzer |

 | hey larry thanks for the help.
i'm a noob but how do you get a support ticket?
the few times I've called TW for problems they ran some test while I was on the phone .then set up a day for them to come out but the problem allways went away b4 the guy showed and I just cancelled the call.cause I knew there was nothing wrong on my end.and i was'nt gonna waste a days pay waiting for some goober to show up and replace my modem or some nonsense. since those incedents I've never wasted my time calling them I just come here to see if anyone is haveing the same problem and then just grin and bear it. but this is getting ridiculous. let me know how to go about doing this and i'll send you the ticket . thanks BTW Im in bellerose queens 11426. |

Well, if you have a similar ping/traceroute above during the hours of 7PM to 1AM every evening, then you have the problem.
To open a ticket, call 718-358-0900 - go through the prompts and tell them you want a tech. to visit. Tell them this problem happens EVERY evening and that you need to document it by opening a ticket. Tell them you've rebooted your computer, rebooted the modem, and checked ALL of the connections and remind them again that this ONLY happens between the hours of 7PM and 1AM. If they try to tell you there isn't a problem, DEMAND to have a ticket opened for a tech. visit. Then send me that ticket number. Otherwise, as far as Time Warner's escalation system is concerned, there is no problem. And that IS the problem.

jemroc join:2006-08-15 Flushing, NY | I just KNOW they are going to give me the runaround again, based on past experience. But I will try calling and getting a ticket number. Everyone who's experiencing slowdowns at night, please do the same so we can get this issue resolved. |

lseltzer join:2000-05-17 Fresh Meadows, NY | Eh, even if you just give me your zip code, I'll add it to the list.
I have 4 so far. A few more and I'll be ready to go.

horrible slowdowns @ night, same as every1 else, except i get level 3 problems and the aol transport network problems. slowdowns to quarter of daytime speed (both up and down) / high latency
please remind them FIOS is coming |

lseltzer join:2000-05-17 Fresh Meadows, NY | I hear ya. Telling them about competition probably won't solve the problem. But this is as good as it gets. I'm adding your ZIP.
And the ATDN issues ARE related to this problem. It's not LEVEL3. It might not even be a Level3 problem. It may just be traffic through some gateways. Either/or, I'm going to see what I can do.
Calling now as a start. Will update afterwards.

 | my zipcode is 11366
slow at 7PM-12AM im tired asking them to fix, they cant do anything. i probably spent 99 hours on the phone complaining since last month. |
|
 | reply to lseltzer F-ing lines been busy since 6pm.
are they maybe just there from 9-5? |
|
lseltzer join:2000-05-17 Fresh Meadows, NY | reply to lseltzer Ok..I'm also in zip 11366. Yeah...seems to be happening OUTSIDE of the 7PM barrier now.
I've left a message with my contact, but she hasn't yet gotten back to me.
Here's the plan:
I call tomorrow. No response, I open a new ticket with NYC, citing all of the ticket #'s that have been e-mailed to me. That will definitely get things rolling, albeit make me a 'bad' guy to Time Warner.
If any tier-3 techs or plant techs are chiming in, you might want to let someone know we're really tired of the issue and will now take larger action to resolve it.
Thanks.

I cant stand playing games on line at 140MS and higher. And today, tried to download something just now since I just got home from work, and its going at 55-80KB/sec...... What kind of speed is this when I'm trying to watch news broadcasts on line and download updates. I don't have time for this anymore. I swear if I have to call.... |
|
lseltzer join:2000-05-17 Fresh Meadows, NY | Yup. Just got off a COD2 server...155ms...should be about 40 for me. Ah well. And, it's no longer just at night. I'm seeing the latency during the day.
It's DEFINITELY ONLY in parts of Queens, NY.
What zip code are you in? I'll add u to the list.
Hey..it took me 4 months to fix a general oversubscription problem on Flashcom DSL (powered by NorthPoint) years ago, but I DID it! They had over 120 768kbps subscribers (SDSL, so it was 768 up and down) on ONE T-1 (1.544mbs) line. Now how long do you think it took to use up 1.5mbs? All day, the pings on the FIRST hop to ANY site were over 250ms and at night, they went up to 6000...yup..6 SECOND delays on packets! Dial-up was way better. But, I resolved it...took a heckuva lotta time and effort, too. The DSLAM was upgraded from a T-1 to a DS3 (45mbs). Problem solved. Pfff.
Hope this one's not that bad. Been going on since early or mid-June.

 | reply to lseltzer I live in the Little Neck area and I too have been experiencing this "7PM - 1AM" problem. My ping to anything skyrockets from 18ms to 150ms+ during those hours. This has been going on for about a month now, I'm sure everyone knows what I'm talking about
Area code 11362 I'll get you a ticket number. |

lseltzer join:2000-05-17 Fresh Meadows, NY | reply to lseltzer Ok. Update:
I spoke with my rep. She's going to forward general information to the High Speed Online department who will probably require specific information. So, nothing as of yet.
If I do not hear from her today, I will follow-up tomorrow morning, and we'll take it from there.
I told her that people in Queens - more than 7 zipcodes - are experiencing extremely high latency and slow speeds between the hours of 7PM and 1AM every evening and that it has now begun to spread to times earlier in the day such as 3PM. She wouldn't take the individual ticket numbers yet, but the High Speed Online department may require them.
Cross your fingers...

Ok..have added you.
Now have 10 unique zipcodes in Queens affected.
I hope to have an answer sometime this afternoon, but most likely tomorrow morning. I can never count on Time Warner.
