I believe that is where the guns come to rest as the vertical and horizontal sweep stops. The phospher gets hit and you get a glow for a short time.

It takes time for the 25 Kv high voltage to bleed off from the picture tube, so you get this bright dot because the electron guns are not being magnetically deflected by the deflection yoke, when the suppression circuit in the TV is not working for whatever reason.

It wont hurt anything.

Turn all the lights off, and then turn it off.

Have you ever seen video of the old Tube/Valve TV's, before Sold State, and the very long persistence big slowly diminishing glow they used to display on power down ? Pretty wild !

Wow that brings back memories. I haven't seen that in ages. We used to have an old Quasar floor TV at my grandmothers, it must of been made in the late 70's. Anyway when turning it off you would see a few dots with certain colors streaked around. Never saw it on a modern TV.

Yeah I've only seen it on older Tv's This one is so faint if you have any room lights on you don't see it at all.

But I watch Tv before going to bed (bad) and so I notice it.

My mom was a bit fanatical, no TV during daylight hours.
Quickly turning the TV of when I heard her coming never saved me.
That darn dot always gave me away and got my butt beat.
