|  [Modem] Wireless Router and Wireless Modem Confliction.
Sorry for coming here yet again with another problem, my knowledge has once again been bested by my technology.
I recently signed up for a year of AT&T DSL and with it came a new modem that I used to replace an old dying one, on the advice of the wise posters here.
The new modem is a 2Wire, wireless modem that acts as a router as well. However, the wireless range is somewhat limited, so I attached a D-Link wireless router I used with the old modem so that I could have stronger signal strength.
However a problem has recently occurred that is puzzling me.
On certain sites, particularly when there is some logging in required, it often times out.
This has affected people in my house from logging into their AT&T mail, searching on an MLS website and for me logging into MSN Messenger. Other sites I commonly use that require logging in are unaffected, but I have tried using both firefox and Internet Explorer, so I'm sure it is not a browser setting.
At first I thought that the new firewall on the modem was conflicting, so I put the router on the modem onto the DMZ, as well as putting my computer on the router onto the DMZ. Unfortunately this did not work.
I believe everything is set on factory settings, and I'm just not sure what needs to be changed, whether there is some sort of wait time that is too short, or what.
To define timing out: The browser acts like it is loading a page, the bars at the bottom move a few in, and then it sits there for a period of maybe 30 seconds before displaying that it cannot reach the site. A similar situation results through MSN Messenger, although google talk seems to login without problem.
Yesterday I just tried to connect to the modems wireless without the router (both are broadcasting) and all these problems disappeared, but unfortunately that is a temporary solution, as the signal strength is too low in many parts of the house.
If anyone knows a workaround or the problem that is causing this I would greatly appreciate it.

The router in question is a D-Link Xtreme G Wireless Router DI-624. And the modem in question is a 2Wire Gateway 2700HG-B

1 edit | first, check the wireless power setting in the 2Wire. It should be set all the way up at 10. The 2Wires have a 400mw transmitter, and that usually bests most other access points by a fair amount. If its not up at 10 then set it so and see if your wireless improves. It can be found on the local network wireless configuration page.
Failing that, if you really want to use the D-link, you can put the 2Wire into bridged mode, where it functions as a DSL modem only. The Dlink would then have to do the PPPoE and everything else. See »2 Wire »Bridging the 2wire and PPPoE (Disabling Router)

I tried boosting the power setting up to 10 before setting up the router, but it did not seem to have much of an effect.
Perhaps the modem needed to be rebooted following the change?
I'm going to give the first a shot again, and if that does not work I'll try putting the 2Wire into bridged mode. Thank you for the link.

Riss is right on with suggesting the higher power, you might also consider using an alternate channel (specificaly channel 2 or 10).

| Just wanted to thank you for the help again.
I set the power back up to 10 on the router and changed the channel to 10 before rebooting. That seemed to do the trick, the signal is as strong (if not stronger) as the router.
