I don't have the Elite plan. My Pro plan speed is within parameters.

When there were evening slowdowns in the S.F. Bay Area, I posted my information to AT&T Direct. You might want to give them a holler.

Seems the problem is getting out of california, 10-13th hop is fine, and then and it all gone. try nypd.org and look at the 13th hop and beyond...

Speed Test, Pro plan.
I am not sure what your Line Quality test is supposed to show. I get my Pro speed without a hitch; see the screen shot. My Line Quality results:

»/quality/nil/2080147

We are both seeing an "All Pass", with a small bit of packet loss in both directions. Admittedly, mine is better than yours, but the page does have a caveat:
quote:
Before drawing conclusions, read this carefully:
This is just one test (from two points on the net), over one short time. Results shown here need to be added to what you know to be the problems (if any) on your link.

Multiple tests at different times may be needed to explore some classes of problems.

You are having trouble achieving your expected download speed for the Elite speed profile. It is, apparently, an evening slowdown. Perhaps an "exhausted" router; I encounter that about six, or eight months ago. A post to SBC Direct (it is now AT&T Direct) took care of the matter. They switched my connection to a different Redback.

that 51ms first hop to your equipment. is that correct?

It looks like you are replying to me, but I don't see any 51ms hops? Oh, wait. That is back up the thread. I didn't look at that post so closely. I'd say local router, probably Linksys (don't see a router actually mentioned in the thread). I can't say that I have ever seen a first hop latency in excess of 1ms here. What I get to the same IP address:

sorry norman for the confusion.
i was responding to 'outtherenost' first hop of 51ms to ip address 192.168.1.1

i was thinking a typo but i'm sure it was a copy paste.
something strange about 51ms.
we'll have to wait to hear back.
the earlier post shows 13ms which is still high as i would think to that ip it would be 1ms or thereabouts.
yours is 0ms. can't get any faster than that! ; )

Yahbut...this trace shows 14ms to my router (hop 2), and 14ms to the gateway (hop 3). Although an earlier trace route also showed 0ms to my router.

Yes it's still slowing in the afternoon/evenings, even on the weekend. I posted direct, last time this happened, about 3 months ago, they switched my circuit and it was fine. Perfectly solid infact with no slowdowns at all. I'll let then work on it.

Looks like a bad router, no?

Hard to say. Doesn't look any worse than the one I posted, and I am not having any slowdown.

Could you address the high latency to your personal router? The one with a 51ms hop?

i don't know whats causing it. I don't have any bad connections. The wide screenshot is from downloading FEAR Combat this morning at 6 am. The other one is from a PC to PC transfer of a DVD.

i don't know what affect the latency to your router would have on anything but i would be interested in seeing results from a tracert with the 192.169.1.1 out of the configuration. while i believe you have no 'bad connections' a high 1st hop latency to a router indicates a router problem as most of the time the response should be within 1ms.

create a trouble ticket and have them change the isp's router again or at least have them check the broadband utilization on your circuit and see if that coincides with what your experiencing. while your trouble 3 months ago was resolved i don't believe there is ever a permanent fix but rather an ongoing shuffle as customers disconnect (creating available broadband on a circuit) and new customers connect (lessening the available broadband) and while they do their best to balance the available resources there is no way of knowing what any one customers throughput is measuring until they complain about it. the isp's routers are changed for lots of customers every day as just a part of ordinary business and most of those don't know its even happened.

I posted in Direct last week, 3 views and no response as of yet. Over the weekend it was pretty much OK. Now Monday's here and I swear it's like it's on a timer or something. Right around 2 or so it starts and continues throughout the evening, then everything is perfect again in the morning. Just exactly like before, 3 months ago.

The priority they put on my account must have expired or something. Thats the way it seems. Unless you knew what to look for most people would think everything was fine.
