| reply to Rahail Sorry to say, but you will lose it (connection) probably. If possible try to raise any end the highest you can. or lower if it's a better view. Align and re-align. And don't pay too much attention to direct path for your alignment. The panels may need to be, or look like they aren't facing quit right. Go for the signal, not looks. And try both 5.3 and 5.8 on every single channel available. |

| reply to Rahail Here is an easy heuristic to estimate loss per 100 meters of trees at any frequency.
(Freq in MHz)/100 = dB loss per 100 meters of trees.
900/100 = 9 dB loss per 100 meters.
2400/100 = 24 dB loss per 100 meters.
5800/100 = 58 dB loss per 100 meters.
It isn't exact and there are better formulas but you can't do them in your head.

I was shocked it worked at all. It works quite well most of the time, except when it rains... trees + wet leaves aren't too kind to 5ghz. |

| reply to Rahail An amp (or any other high transmitt power) helps marginally in areas with NLOS as the loss traveling through trees is simply so high.
Lower frequency radios will simply beat higher power almost everytime.

1 edit | reply to Rahail You mean, An Amplifier?.. no it does not. 10 watts EIRP is enough as it is, maybe over. Trees ABSORB RF. There's no if's or but's about it. 900Mhz works better because it is less susceptible to trees. Plus 5.8 is used by many many cordless phones.

5.8GHz does not like things getting in it's way. What you are trying to accomplish requires 900MHz.... You went the wrong direction. Unless you need the exercise, you can give this a try but I will be surprised if you can even see the other radio.
