Well, the problem is fixed. This is embarrassing, but it was because of my Zone Alarm firewall. I tried shutting it down, to no avail -- but that was when I let Windows XP handle my wireless connection. During the course of troubleshooting, I converted to using the Intel Pro Set program to handle the connection, hoping that might solve the drop out problem (it didn't.) But I never tried disabling Zone Alarm while using Intel Pro Set, and now that did the trick. Thanks for your help. Oh, and luckily my battery isn't one of the ones at risk. Thanks again. |
