Marketing 101... show a few people what it's like so they will show others and create a demand before release. *MINE* was given to me by a friend... NO NAMES! YES! You may be able to find it "elsewhere" now... that's not where I got mine! For the record, yeah I have found other softwares in "other" places before.. what of it? I have also recieved software directly from the author! ONOES!!!1 |

Cool, Any bugs in this pre-release? |

Sort of. I get a recommendation for an offline defrag but when I actually to do an offline defrag, it won't work. PD can't lock onto my C: drive even before Windows is booted for some reason. The error message that it shows is shown far too fast for me to see. I'll have to whip out my digicam and record a movie of that stupid screen so I can actually read what it says.. but I believe it says something about a driver conflict or something? I'm really not sure what's up, but PD7 has not complained a SINGLE time about offline defragging. Other than that, it's beautiful. |

the bug in my case appeared to be due to the SPTD layer that alcohol 120%/daemon tools installs. Once you uninstall it you can get a normal offline defrag. |

I did some research. » www.wilderssecurity.com/ ··· t=134991» www.raxco.com/support/wi ··· kbid=494» www.raxco.com/support/wi ··· kbid=534I'll try one of the later two. Nothing I've tried from that first thread did anything for me. |

Bring it on!!I'll be an "early adopter" on PD 8. Perfect Disk is great. I can't believe that I actually paid money for Diskeeper 3 years ago. |

I've had PD7 for over a yr. now. To upgrade to Version 8 will there be a discount for current users or will it be the full price? Any word on that yet? |

Normally they have an upgrade price. I think it was $15 or $20 the last time but I really can't remember. |

Well the upgrade from version 6 to 7 is $19.95 according to the Raxco site, I assume the upgrade from 7 to 8 would be the same. » www.raxco.com/products/c ··· load.cfm |

Launch PerfectDisk, then go to Help -> About PerfectDisk -> and click the "Support Info" button. Scroll all the way down and look whats listed under the Third Party Software heading. This will show you if PerfectDisk found a conflicting driver from other software.
I would say that even if PerfectDisk doesn't appear to find any of the third party files, manually check for them anyway in c:\windows\system32\drivers to make sure. I found sptd.sys in there, even though PD said it didn't find it. This was left over from an old uninstall of Alcohol, so I just deleted the file, got rid of the assiciated registry entries, and have been fine with the boot time defrag ever since. |

Nice find. I checked, and just like with you, my PD8 did not find any of the *.sys files listed at the end of the support info file. Just like with you as well, it did find sptd.sys as well as sptd1949.sys. How do you find out what registry entries are associated with those files, and what's more, how do you find out that no other software on the system depends on those files?
Thanks.

Turns out the SPTD.sys files are virtual device drivers that come with Daemon Tools. See this link in case you're having the same problem: » www.greatis.com/security ··· .sys.htm |

I don't think you have to wory about the sptd1949.sys file. I have one as well (similar name) and that's a Microsoft file, where the sptd.sys is not and came from the Alcohol software. I only removed the sptd.sys. I'm actually not 100% sure if the registry entries need to be taken out, but as I had no need for them any longer, I did. I just ran a search for the filename. There is also a way to just disable it temporarily to do a boot-time defrag, and then enable it again, but I'd have to look for that, as i don't remember off the top of my head. |

Sweet. Deleting sptd.sys fixed the problem for me! Now PD does boot-time defrags Thanks! |

I downloaded the demo of Version 7. I currently use Diskeeper and have it defrag ever 2 weeks automatically. When I installed PerfectDisk and ran it my disk was not fragged. This does look like a great program but my diskeeper seems to work very well too. BTW I run Diskeeper 8 |
|
|
I got the upgrade version to 8. It was only $21.95 with the 1 year service plan and 10% off code which is good through September.
The program is okay but I don't see much improved from version 7. It says it has auto-pilot but it still does not have smartscheduling. When it analizes it still dips my 512MB of ram which is dit today to below 70MB sometimes. I still keep it to run once a week smartplacement and still use Diskeeper 10 to do the smartscheduling defrag. At least auto-pilot lets you set it to run everyday. |

What's the smart scheduling feature? |
|
|
That is only in Diskeeper and I like it. Diskeeper uses much less memory and resources unlike Perfectdisk 8 which like 7 dips my ram many times in the red and makes everything sluggy when it is running a defrag unlike Diskeeper which could be running a defrag in the background and it does not slow things down. I was hopeing that version 8 would fix the slowdowns but it did not. I am still keeping it because I think it does a good job with smartplacement better than Diskeepers 10 overprices I-FAAST feature. |

ive been usin perfect disk 7 for awhile it does the best job in compacting your drive with the aggressive free space consolidation...but i have have problems with it it compacts everything no problem but it has trouble defragmenting larger files i run it everyday and it always leaves 2 or 3 files over 1gb fragmented..i then i run diskeeper to and it takes care of the large fragmented files but it puts the files out of compression on another part of the disk...so i run perfect disk again and it takes the defragmnted files diskeeper just ran and puts them back into the other whole block again but fragments them back to where they were before i ran diskeeper..strange..ive had this problem with perfect disk since 7 and multiple formats.. |
