 Standalone ADSL 608/128 @ 22700ft??

Similar to another topic in this forum, Cyberonic is claiming I can get 608/128 ADSL for $69/mo even though I'm 22700ft out and no other DSL provider (including Qwest, the local phone company) has been able to qualify me. Not believing the salesperson, I've called twice now and gotten the same info from two different people. Supposedly AT&T would be doing the install and they are able to offer the service because it is "standalone dsl" that doesn't have the same distance restrictions. I can't find any info on a technology currently in use that can do what they claim.

I'm pretty skeptical to say the least. Anyone heard of this or gotten this service from Cyberonic? I don't even see a matching plan on their website.

It's either this or WildBlue satellite...

Thanks...

Go to Find SVC link here and go through the prequalification link. It should show COVAD as being available for your CO. When I was with a COVAD provider that's all it showed for my CO, but I did have 3000/768 service via COVAD through that CO. 608/128 is the slowest speed that COVAD will provide ADSL at. It's for those customers like you who are at the distance limit. Note that COVAD does have their own DSLAMs and at times can/will provide service where the existing CLEC can't or won't (or haven't updated their database to indicate that they can provide service there). For the longest time qwest kept insisting they couldn't provide service to my home, then they updated that to 256/256. Magicly one day 1500/896 was available. All this time COVAD was providing 1500/384 or 1500/768 or 3000/768 service through the same phone lines. If Cyberonic offers an initial period (7-14 days) where you cancel without cost, you may want to give it a shot.

I think the 608/128 that the OP is talking about is throug ATT, which seems to be available to more locations when nothing else is. The distance is pretty far out, but I suppose it's worth a try. Find out what kind of evaluation/grace period you could get.
