Atheros drivers, new AR5211.sys spotted 4.2.2.33

Hello,

I was searching for a wifi sniffer via google and found a trial verison of CommView by TamoSoft. What I did not expect is that they also built a newer version of the wireless driver for atheros cards, the installer places this in a "driver" folder inthe program's installed directory usually, C:\program files\CommViewWifi.

Click on download and look for CommView for Wifi, download and install it, pull what you need and be done with it. Now I must look for a compatible utility to run it. Windows' Wifi control panel works well with it so far, need to test computer-to-computer, this yielded a BSOD with the generic atheros drivers before on my card.

AR5211.sys version 4.2.2.33 TamoSoft rebranded it

Edit: Corrected version information.. nice to see this making the rounds on the net "forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/581849.html"

other info:

Atheros ACU version 4.2.0.384 works fine after installing it on top of Gigabyte's Atheros ACU 4.2.0.374.02 as the package I found was missing files for it (eg. Aegise5.dll, etc).

This driver can also be used in conjunction with Tamosoft's RCU.exe to change the regional domain and country codes in the card's EEPROM, but I have not been able to write 0x00 for the regdomain yet or force 0xFF (greeted by a BSOD if attempted upon closing RCU after the change with my current set up)... (searching for older hacked driver)

I have a DWL-AG530.

I typically don't like to install apps unless I really need to.

Could someone post the AR5211.SYS along with the INF? I'm kind of curious to see the INF even though I don't need it.

Where is the RCU.exe that can change Atheros country setting? I have been looking for this option for months.

TIA

Thanks for the link.

Has anyone used this driver with a wireless PC card yet?
Ex: D-Link DWL-G650 or Netgear WG311T

Works fine here. If you're using IE, perhaps you need to enable passive FTP transfers.

The link works fine now. Something is wrong with your browser config then. You need to enable passive mode with your browser or FTP client.

I recently got the DWL-G510 PCI card but not sure how to find out what chipset it uses. The box claimed it is H/W ver: B1 and F/W ver : 2.11, the CD installed the connect program, it shows V2.11 and driver 4.0.0.1414
Can some help me to identify what chipset does it with and does mentioned update drive that I can use with this PCI adpater or not please.
Cheers

The following link is the official page for the Atheros Linux drivers...their compatibility chart shows that you should be able to use the Atheros drivers without any problems.

I d/l and install latest driver from DLink site, now driver is ver:4.1.2.147, this is suppose for G520 as per DLink
»tsd.dlink.com.tw/ModelDo ··· JLFLNQJK
but it seems also for G510 as well. Now signal seems 2-3% better than before ver:4.0.0.1414 but still far better is needed.

Just don't understand why my Belkin works so nicely as expected and getting 75-80% in signal while this G510 gettting only 28-40% max.

Atheros Communications Inc.

Hey guys i just wanted to post some info.. on the drivers for my DWL G520 addin card.

Ive just recently installed Vista to give it a try and lucky for me i had no problems with the install but it did take some time to install.

Good news is it didnt need any other drivers except my raid drivers. The default drivers it found for my DWL G520 were from Atheros Communications INC. I know alot of people here have been using them but ive always kept to Dlink drivers. Now for the good part of my story. Under windows XP the bars that i had been getting from the Dlink 624 are 2 bars. I figured it was because im upstairs and its expected. Under Windows Vista however the Bar was raised to 3 bars. Wow i thought thats odd maybe Vista handles the drivers better. It gets better... tonight there was a windows update for the Atheros Communications driver on windows update and i opped to update. The updated drivers are showing up as 7.1.0.90 Atheros Communications Inc. 11/10/06. The best news is that i have all my bars at 100%. Im still running WEP and have the router at default settings. So it seems to me that my connection with these new drivers are better.

Cool, I was worried that I would have problems with my DWL G520 drivers when I install Vista soon. I know all my other devices have drivers for Vista so looks like I'll go for it.
