in more simple terms..

you need to have a direct cable connected only for 2wire setup. then, you activate wireless.

once its set up, you can then disconnect your cable and start using your wireless.

So, i do have to connect it wired in order to set up? meaning i have to go and get that ethernet port adapter thing?

No, you do not need to connect via ethernet. You can connect directly with the wireless. Its just a little harder to set up because you have to program in the wireless WEP key before the 2 will communicate. Just set up your wireless card on the 2wire network with your last 3 serial number digits and the encryption key in the brackets and you can connect to the 2wire.
There is no need to use ethernet if you dont have an ethernet port.

Once in the 2wire oyu can set it up by opening a browser and going to http://homeportal/setup
