Re: I need single sided 512 mb Ram

1) You have your significant figures off. You must mean you have two 256MB sticks which equals 512MB. Your end goal is 1GB.

2) According to your motherboards manual, since you currently have 2x256MB 2Bank modules, the max amount of memory your system will support is 768MB. So it's quite possible that if you try to purchase a single sided 512MB module, it will not work properly in DIMM3 (even though you will have not violated the max 5 banks rule set forth by your motherboard).

3) Why do you have PC2700 installed? Seems like a waste since your motherboard only supports PC2100. Sure, I realize PC2700 is backwards compatible, but unless you're overclocking, it's a waste.

4) A quick search on Newegg.com, and I found a stick of Mushkin PC2100 which states its single sided, but it's only 256MB.

While this list isn't specific to your motherboard, it gives you a good overview on the availability of single/double sided memory modules and their sizes. Basically, you're going to be hard pressed to find a single sided 512MB memory stick. Personally, I'd just get a newer motherboard which isn't so picky about memory configurations.

If it's not on Google, then it doesn't exist.

Yes it's 512 total (2 x 256) And you're right about the manual. I hadn't noticed that a 512 is not possible with my current RAM.

The PC2700 was robbed from another system which was upgraded to PC3200 and more of it. Thus why it's in this system. This is a spare system made from spare parts so I'm not that particular about it being a little picky. It's older I know.

When it's time for a new motherboard I'll be upgrading my main system.

Thanks for the list.
