... of the people leeching couldn't care less about what the owner's computer has on it or what it is doing.
*MOST* are just looking for a free ride to IM, check email, surf porn, whatever.
If I were to open up my router, you'd have to work pretty hard to get in my laptops, but you could go hit MySpace with ease. I'm paying for my bandwidth, I want all of it for me! This is why I have taken a few SIMPLE steps to more or less ensure the casual wardriver cannot connect.
No offense, but f*** a sticker! LOL! Maybe if they apply the sticker over the power plug or a WAN port it would catch a few people's attention... MAYBE! -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

| Excellent idea; "..apply the sticker over the power plug or a WAN port.." But it certainly begs the question the consumer is likely to ask, What's a WAN Port? -- From this point forward Hoedown, from the ballet RODEO, by Aaron Copeland will not be reffered to as "The Beef Song". Thank You |

| Not as fast as you might like to think. I build and service networks all the time. A lot of people out there don't know the difference between a hole on the router and the hole in their nether regions. -- Televideo ergo sum.....I watch TV, therefore I am. |

YOU are doing it... if THEY go buy a router and do it themselves, they just might have to RTFM. -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

Have you purchased any linksys router lately? They already place a huge sticker over all the ports saying "enter the CD first to set up..." bla bla bla... meaning, if you run through the installation process, they will secure it. I think the only thing that the sticker, now, leaves out is the word "secure"... but Linksys implies that you must "set up your router" first. -- "Wipe out the national deficit over night... now clearly one should use the WPA and mac auth to be more secure though. use the max available measures by your hardware of course. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports |

| reply to dadkins A lot of them can't read. You ask them what their email address is, and you get a response like, "Oh I can't work my computer, I'm not mechanical."
Yep, I run into this stuff all day long. Read the Sharktank on www.computerworld.com and see the kind of stuff I get to deal with. -- Televideo ergo sum.....I watch TV, therefore I am. |
