I'm still flying good with the Logmein product. It's worked everytime. I'm very pleased with that product. If one is having problems with another VPN software... give this one a shot!

I just recently purchased Embarq DSL with their 660 modem. I've tried for 2 weeks to get a Belkin FSD 7230-4 router to work with it. I could access internet putting the ethernet cable in the modem, but NOT via wireless. Talked to Embarq and Belkin for hours - they pointed the finger at each other saying it was a bridge problem.

Finally went out and got a Linksys Wireless G. Had the wireless up with no problems in 5 minutes!!

Thanks Sly. For now I am going to use Logmein. But in the future I may go back with them. And others will surely appreciate your workaround, post.

Well, I finally got to this situation and tried the F.A.Q. for this (as per the link posted) and it did not solve the connection problem. I am not sure what's going on. I have adjusted the Windows XP Firewall, the Modem's Firewall (turned it off) and redid all of the directions and still no go. I do not have any other third party firewalls installed. So, I'm at a standstill again.

Do you all have any other ideas?

TIA
FYI, I had the exact same problem... I kept getting NAT errors when running certain programs.

I turned off windows firewall, turned off my router's firewall and put my computer in the DMZ just to make sure and I turned off the modem's firewall. I set everything as stated in the modem. Yet I still had NAT errors. I finally fixed the problem by switching the modem to BRIDGE mode.

I'd rather use the router as my DHCP server anyway... Now with all firewalls turned back on my NAT problem is gone.

Yes, the client installs as a service so it should be there at the login screen. The way Logmein works is by maintaining a persistent connection to their server so when you connect remotely its seen as an outbound connection not an inbound which excludes then need for any port forwarding.

Oh, one question as I did not see it on LogMeIn's forum, help area/site. I remoted in this morning and logged into my WinXP Media (Pro) box and when done I went ahead and logged off (via the Start button). When I went to log back in later... the Webpage in the LogMeIn control page showed the system (offline). Any reason why I would not be able to log in? I came home and the system was back to the screen waiting for a password (logon screen), just like in the morning when I did sucessfully login. That perplexed me.

I did read that you can remotely restart (with LogMeIn Pro) the remote machine. Would that have helped, does it work?

TIA

orph4824, I went ahead and tried LogMeIn anyway and I was pleasantly surprised to see the remote computer. I probably will just buy a years subscription to LogMeIn Pro.

Thanks guys for the input. I did like RAdmin, but their price is going up anyway. So, I'll give LogMeIn Pro a go.

Thanks again orph4824.

RAdmin is ok, the only reasons I moved on to VNC and/or Logmein.com is the screen refresh on RAdim is painfully slow, VNC is a tad better however VNC has a strong encryption if your wanting secure remote access. Windows XP Remote Desktop is the most responsive yet from a security standpoint, eh no comment... Logmein has a decent response time but the encryption isnt as strong as VNC and is cross platform, I can use a Linux client to login as well as my PDA...

I use VNC 90% of the time for my machine when I'm away. Logmein.com if I need to aceess other peoples machines of which I do remote support/assistance.

Since you are using a router behind the modem it's probably best to just bridge the modem and let your router do everything non-modem related.

Well, I already paid for RAdmin and like that it's a standalone client and I can backup my files (or should be able too if I can get this operating properly) directly on my remote machine (thus bypassing a thumb drive) for shuttle my work back and forth.

But, I'll take another look at Logmein. Thanks for the suggestion.

modem > Netgear 814 (version 1, with latest firmware) > Laptop (and a wireless Desktop, but I'm not worried about accessing that system).

If you are only seeing stuff from 02/2000 then in the same menu you view the firewall log you should be able to clear it. Then when away from home you can make request to the server and go home and see if the packets are dropped.
If you want to access the modem remotely via telnet or a web browser then browse to the modem GUI and go to Advanced Setup->Remote Management and set the desired services to All. If you decide to do this make sure you also change the password from the default, which is admin.
