Maxo, in your opinion, should we upgrade to this latest firmware if we are not experiencing the reboots? Will this correct the "can't port foreward" issue?

This first is that if it ain't broke then don't fix it. This leads to a no conclusion (see my answer to the next question.) The second is that you always want the latest drivers and firmware installed on your machine to ensure everything is running optimally. This leads to a yes. I was experiencing reboots so I upgraded. I think that even if I wasn't I personally would have.

1 edit | reply to Constantine3 ZyNOS F/W Version: V3.40(ACZ.4) | 07/29/2006 DSL FW Version:TI AR7 04.03.00.01
I would highly advise grabbing the latest firmware. If you've been experiencing your modem rebooting a lot this fixes a firmware bug causing that.
If you do a search on this forum for port forwarding 660 you will see many have had problems. My investigations show the firewall is dropping the packets that are suppose to be forwarded. It appears in this thread that YMMV.
[Mod Note: No direct links to the firmware or uploads of the firmware are permissible, only links to the site hosting the firmware.]

1 edit | reply to Maxo This then continues to be an "open ticket" issue then. I'll just have to do like others and wait and see if Embarq's DEVs fix this issue. Hopefully this will be addressed sooner than later, or worse, never.
Thanks for your help, suggestions, etc. Maxo. |

| reply to Maxo Well, I finally got to this situation and tried the F.A.Q. for this (as per the link posted) and it did not solve the connection problem. I am not sure what's going on. I have adjusted the Windows XP Firewall, the Modem's Firewall (turned it off) and redid all of the directions and still no go. I do not have any other third party firewalls installed. So, I'm at a standstill again.
Do you all have any other ideas?
TIA |

Which specifically named area do I check for such drops? |

| reply to Maxo I'll have to try again. As the firewall log only shows stuff from February 2000(?). That's odd. I did update the firmware. I wonder if that had anything to do with the odd readings.
But, I'll try again and see if I can access this machine at home from the office. |

| If you are only seeing stuff from 02/2000 then in the same menu you view the firewall log you should be able to clear it. Then when away from home you can make request to the server and go home and see if the packets are dropped. If you want to access the modem remotely via telnet or a web browser then browse to the modem GUI and go to Advanced Setup->Remote Management and set the desired services to All. If you decide to do this make sure you also change the password from the default, which is admin. -- "Padre, nobody said war was fun now bowl!" - Sherman T Potter

| reply to Maxo Well, I already paid for RAdmin and like that it's a standalone client and I can backup my files (or should be able too if I can get this operating properly) directly on my remote machine (thus bypassing a thumb drive) for shuttle my work back and forth.
But, I'll take another look at Logmein. Thanks for the suggestion. |

1 edit | reply to Maxo RAdmin is ok, the only reasons I moved on to VNC and/or Logmein.com is the screen refresh on RAdim is painfully slow, VNC is a tad better however VNC has a strong encryption if your wanting secure remote access. Windows XP Remote Desktop is the most responsive yet from a security standpoint, eh no comment... Logmein has a decent response time but the encryption isnt as strong as VNC and is cross platform, I can use a Linux client to login as well as my PDA...
I use VNC 90% of the time for my machine when I'm away. Logmein.com if I need to aceess other peoples machines of which I do remote support/assistance. -- Life's 3 rules: 1. Stuff happens 2. | reply to Maxo orph4824, I went ahead and tried LogMeIn anyway and I was pleasantly surprised to see the remote computer. I probably will just buy a years subscription to LogMeIn Pro.
Thanks guys for the input. I did like RAdmin, but their price is going up anyway. So, I'll give LogMeIn Pro a go.
Thanks again orph4824. |

| reply to Maxo Oh, one question as I did not see it on LogMeIn's forum, help area/site. I remoted in this morning and logged into my WinXP Media (Pro) box and when done I went ahead and logged off (via the Start button). When I went to log back in later... the Webpage in the LogMeIn control page showed the system (offline). Any reason why I would not be able to log in? I came home and the system was back to the screen waiting for a password (logon screen), just like in the morning when I did sucessfully login. That perplexed me.
I did read that you can remotely restart (with LogMeIn Pro) the remote machine. Would that have helped, does it work?
