Is there anyway to see how many false positives each AV had?

Re: VERY interesting latest AV Comparatives test

I don't understand why so many people are now excited about the results Avira achieved in the recent comparative test. Every AV vendor could make the same detection based on flagging every strange runtime packed file at the cost of producing a high number of false positives. If you use legit software that is protected against reverse engineering, you'd get most of the files flagged as suspicious. In real life, I couldn't live with that, I noticed about 20 FPs because of this in a single day.

I just downloaded Avira Personal Edition Classic. Is that the free version? It says the license is valid until November 30.

IBK,

Thanks for clarifying that about Avira and the Premium vs. free detections.
Thanks also for the professional tests!

HI Frisky,

I appreciate the reply, and understand that the test was with the old version. I am looking forward to the test with V4. I understand that IBK is going to run a special test with it. That will be good.

F-Prot (I got corrected for posting F-Protect, but assumed that was what the Prot stood for.) has a loyal following of some very savvy folks, so I am expecting almost miracles.

Although I am not currently a user, I appreciate the license fee plan that is very generous and helps famillies and those who have more than one computer. I hope you can continue that, but realize that you might not be able to.

Thanks again, and keep up the good work.

Best Regards,
Jerry

as spyware etc. in not included in the test-sets, you can consider that premium and free version would get same results.

One minor thing to keep in my mind regarding these results is that Avira Premium was the program tested.I hear that the difference between Avira Premium and Avira free is that there is more spyware/adware definitions in Premium.
At any rate these results will cause a lot of users to seriously consider Avira for their a/v needs.
Rightfully so.

but at the present it is not good enough so that I would consider it.

Version 3 is obsolete. There havn't been any emulator/unpacking improvements since almost 2 years! V3 includes a "basic" dos virus heuristic and that's it. Building up a solid AV isn't done in a few weeks (even if newcomers in this business having a slightly different oppinion...) The next thing which i want to point out is don't expect miracles from the new version. We have added a lot of "freedom" for later usuage such as a topnotch script emulation, generic unpacking etc. However, even if the emulator is able to unpack almost all we will add static unpacking as well for keeping our trend as fast and reliable AV solution with a reasonable low amount of system resources usage. Those facts are difficult to "combine" but we'll do our best

I am looking forward to the test with the new F-Prot. I hope it is significantly improved in the detection area, but at the present it is not good enough so that I would consider it.

I agree....especially with Avira being free!

It surprises me how much McAfee and Bit Defender have dropped...especially their trojan detection. I would want BoClean for sure if I had either of those (or Norton).

F-Prot results are mostly worthless because the old version was used. I can't wait for the next on demand tests to see how F-Prot, with the Inspector now at the helm, does when the new version is tested. F-Prot has a valid official objection also to some of the samples used for the macro scanning to which IBK concedes. IBK says F-Prot version 4 does MUCH better than version 3 and that a comparison between the two is soon forthcoming.

Their website shows 49.95 euro with a 10% discount....44.95

That is 57.61 US dollars per a euro converter to us dollars

Not worth it~!

I have no idea. A Google search for G data antiviruskit USA price produces a crack site as the first choice. Nothing in the search results led me to a USA price.

This seems to me very unprofessional coz Avira produces a lot of FPs on my system, especially on installers of various plugins I have.

An antivirus MAY NOT FLAG files packed with strange runtime packers as supicious and just thanks to this win a test !
