| Why can't Shaw notify us we they change channel location
This AM in Vancouver flipped on the Golf Channel which WAS 53 only to find something called AMC-Canada. Finally found Golf on 144. It seems everytime they move channels around you find the new location by hunt and seek. They can send Digital messages for every PPV event but Channel changes your on your owwn to find out? |

1 edit | reply to rmr71 Shaw made the move due to overwhelming demand for more movies on Full cable.
Of course, you can't please all of the people all of the time. The outcry from Golf Channel fans has been strong. So strong in fact, I can't help but think these people need to get a life.... it's a cable channel.
But on the flip side; 59 channels and nothing on. I guess if it's the one channel you like and now you can't get it, it's a bit upsetting.
Hopefully when Shaw releases the current analog channels in digital, they'll also let us choose a more custom tailored package as well.
From what I understand, this may well happen this fall/winter.
Oh, more notice would have been a smart idea... agreed. -- "The believer is happy....the Doubter is wise" "There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots" |

It costs Shaw money to send out digital messages.. they only do it when they are selling something.
Though if you check on shaw.ca it lists all the channels available in your area. |

| reply to rmr71 what I dont understand is when I watch CH 49 (FOX KCPQ) it has Channel "M" on it. I mean I watch the American channel, I expect to see their programming not the patched in garbage shaw puts on. noticed this on a few channels when the simpsons are on and the comercial says "next on Channel M", then right after you get the "switch" back to Fox where its not what channel M was expecting |

| I mean I watch the American channel, I expect to see their programming not the patched in garbage shaw puts on. It's called simulcasting, and it's not Shaw's doing; it's the TV station's. I believe it may even be a regulation kinda thing. I agree, though, it's annoying. I always miss out on the promos or commercials shown in the American channel.
As for TheWB, it's gone. It was never available in the regular Shaw cable package. Anyway, TheWB and UPN merged into TheCW--you'll find it on channel 14 where UPN used to be. |

Shaw is required to comply with Channel M's request to place their channel over similiar US programming. Its used by Canadian channels for "advertising" purposes and whatnot. Believe me, Shaw wouldn't do it if they didn't have to, as that means they actually have to watch the programming should anything change (read Football season especially as games can go long and the machines get all messed up)...
Its an un-neccessary overhead for Shaw, but they have to do it, they have no choice. Well, the choice is to lose their BDU license for the area if enough complaints are recieved by Channel M because Shaw isn't doing the required switch. |

| reply to rmr71 Here in Winnipeg I got a digital message about the change. I also saw messages about it on CH 1, on the local Shaw news channel and the tv guide channel. -- Faster, faster until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death. -Speedfreaks Motto The Long Run Daniel Keys Moran |

Was that a joke? All shaw did was move the specialty channels, like CNBC, golf and TLN (italian language) to digital cable, which no doubt gave it plenty of added value. They then replaced them with very cheap channels that show either very old movies or reruns. It wasn't to fill any demand, it was to convince more to go to digital cable. Channels like OMNI and AMC are dirt cheap, they use old programming, I hope you didn't think that they were doing it to add value to anybody but themselves. |

that is the most ridiculous thing i have heard. from talking to other people, and my personal experience, i much prefer the two movie channels than the two channels that were there before. |
