Re: [modem/router] Westell 6100/ Linksys WRT54GS NIGHTMARE!

Read the information on the shopireland website, I am going to try the advice tomorrow, but I can't get back to you. it's at:

Verizon and WRT54G
Rating: - Pissed Off

I have setup literally 100s of Routers on DSL and Cable Modems for friends and Co-workers. I have run into issues before but was always able to get them resolved. That is until I ran into setting up a WRT54G up with a Westell 6100 Modem (Verizon DSL). I have bridged the modem, cloned the Mac, changed the IP of the modem, powered it off and on multiple times and have never gotten it too connect. Its not the router, its the crappy modem from Verizon.
So save yourself alot of headaches if you have Verizon DSL with a Westell 6100 Modem and stay away from a router. Purchase the WAP54G Wireless Access Point instead, that Way you don't have to screw around with trying to get the modem to talk to the router

I am definitely going to take this up with Verizon.

dont blame verizon please sir, third party routers are reponsability of manufactures.
Thinking that linksys support its on india i will help you

disconnect router, connect the modem directly to the computer
access the westell copy MAC address from the westell, put it bridge mode not routed bridge, disable dhcp server,
reconnect the router go to advance mac cloning type the address of the modem, be sure that u have the option automatic configuration obtain an ipaddress - dchp and joy internet access again.... how ever if u want to be connected with MAC address of the router u will need release MAC address of the modem

before go to sleep, turn off the modem ------z hard reset on the router hard reset its for about 2 minutes holding reset button, turn it off and leave everything off including the computer for 1 day and next day surprise.... u will be connected with the MAC address of the router, remember the maxium time needed to release mac address from the central office its 4 hours with nothing authenticating in ur house

post a message if it works for u

I just got mine to work....and you don't have to do anything fancy. I just set up my house and my neighbors house. First time it took me 3 hours, the second time it took 3 minutes.

Linksys WRT54G with a Westell 6100 model on Verizon DSL.

Go into the modem and set everything to bridge, then turn off DHCP.

Enter the setup of the router (make sure you have everything set to factory defaults). Change the Internet Connection Type from Automatic Configuration DHCP to PPPoE. Enter your DSL credentials from the modem under username/password.

You are now officially on the Internet. I went through all of the steps of cloning my MAC address, rebooting pc's routers and modems and nothing worked. I'm not sure how much the guy from Linksys/Cisco makes (the one that wrote the "how to" on the Linksys website) but I'm sure it's probably too much.
