Nokia Rooftop clone?

I have been studying the Nokia Rooftop product, and I like many of the features (MTP to MTP, self healing network, ability to expand network without LOS to the AP), but the price of the CPE and Airhead units simply doesn't make it feasible to use it in residential installations. I was wondering if there is any combination of existing hardware and software that can reproduce the abilities of Nokia's product? Is there another hardware solution that would act as a bridge/router/ap/repeater and CPE all-in-one? Thanks You, Ed.

Re: Nokia Rooftop clone?

I'm not aware of any meshed technologies, but I saw a posting to a list from a fellow at an Asian ISP who said that he was selecting the Nokia product over two others, but he didn't cite who they were.

I'm very interested to hear how this product works, but you've got a very good point about the per-subscriber cost. Of course, it's cheaper than putting new copper in the ground or even a DSLAM, and they seem to be handing us gear that _could_ put the phone company out of business, so they want to make some money!

Re: Nokia Rooftop clone?

Dane,

There is a fellow on the "other list", the isp planet wireless list, that is in the process of testing out some of the nokia gear. If you aren't already on it, go to the archives (»isp-lists.isp-planet.com/isp-wir···rchives/) and search for topics with nokia rooftop in them.
