Unfortunately many words have different meanings depending on the context. Hacker can still IMO, have a positive not simply a negative connotation, but it depends on the meaning of the writer. You must read the word in the context of the material. So if you say it only means cracker or can not mean cracker, you will miss the meaning of what has been written.
