Is anyone beta-testing the new Tivo for the 6412 for Comcast

?

Honestly, I'm so incredibly sick of Iguide and the terrible software on my 6412pIII that I'm almost willing to shell out the extra $10 a month for the Tivo service. How is it? Decent?

It hasn't been released to the public yet - that I know of. I can't wait for it either!

Any threads to back this up? I've looked thre and haven't seen a single post about any user there beta testing the Tivo software. There are a couple headends testing it internally, but that's about it. I doubt it has already gone out to public testing yet.

Re: Is anyone beta-testing the new TiVo for the 6412 for Comcast

I would also like to see proof of who has it other than TiVo and Comcast.

The Beta Testers have to sign NON disclosure agreements while the product is undergoing testing. When it is out of Beta Testing and begins roll-out, they can talk about it.

This testing needs to end quickly. Next to CDV, request for ??? HD, The TiVo software upgrade is the most requested Item to all Comcast Call Centers.

But due to the CDV Major Roll-out that began on Sept. 01, 2006, Everything else is secondary for right now.

Even with the non-disclosure i'm surprised pictures and/or comments on the beta Tivo software haven't leaked. It seems like this always happens with other high demand software currently in beta.

I too would love to see a link to the AVS thread where beta testing is discussed.

A couple of ?'s
What does CDV stand for?

Should I assume spanpa works for comcast?

Comcast just called my wife about the triple play, but I currently have a hacked DirecTv HDTivo that I am not willing to part with (yet)

My wife mentioned the upcoming Tivo/Comcast box, the CSR told her there is no such thing.

What is the general consensus on a delivery time frame?
Months?
Years?

CDV is Comcast Digital Voice, it's their phone service.

If the Tivo software is actually being used out in the field, which I highly doubt it is(I think it's just spinning on the servers and maybe a headend or two are playing with it, but that's it) it more than likely won't see the light of day until early next year.

NDAs or not, information like this will leak out in a second. It can't be out in the field yet.

I was the same way. I only had a regular directivo. Hacked and all. It's slowly dying. They gave me $25.00 off per month for 16 months. The only reason i went was for the hd dvr. I'd give it a shot.

What makes Tivo so good? I have never used it before.

For me Tivo is amazing mostly because of two reasons.

1. It works and rarely crashes. Come to think of it in the five years I had it I never saw one crash. It also NEVER missed a recording unless it was my fault. (Tivo will even tell you why it didn't record something which ends up proving to you it was your fault. For example, "You told me to record two other things instead", LOL) Since I've moved to Comcast three months ago I've had probably around 50 crashes and three bad boxes before I got one that "works". I also have to keep up on my Comcast box because sometimes it just doesn't feel like recording something or it ends up corrupting the recording and thus making it unwatchable.

2. Tivo has numerous possibilities when it comes to looking for something to record and/or watch. You can literally spend 30 minutes messing with the Tivo interface finding good stuff to watch. With other DVR's like the Comcast DVR software there is virtually no way to find stuff to watch except for looking through the guide.

I'm sure I'll catch some bad words for this (generally if you say anything negative yet constructive about Comcast here you get torn apart) but I switched to Comcast for just the HD programming since Directv is known to use HDLite. After using the Comcast HD DVR's for a month I realized I missed my old Tivo and pretty much decided to go back to Directv just because of my hacked Directivo. Well, soon after I learned Tivo was coming to Comcast and meanwhile Directv was loosing Tivo. This is the sole reason for me staying with Comcast. My only hope is that the current HD DVR's only crash so much because of the software they use and once Tivo gets released the boxes will be stable. We'll see!
