Ditched the dish - Great install

Just wanted to post a follow up to this thread: »Ditch the dish promo

I bought a new Panasonic Plasma and went ahead with the ditch the dish promo I was given in the previous thread.

I got an install for yesterday (9/7) between 2 and 4. So I am home at 2 and am waiting. 3 rolls around and I am getting ready to call Comcast to get an ETA and I hear the doorbell ring and it's the contractor. He comes in and is polite, clean and asks where I want my new boxes set up. I show him and he asks if there was ever any cable run in the house. I indicate that there was, however the previous owners of the house cut the cabling.

He goes out to the box on the house, sees the other wiring and says he could use the old wiring, but will just run new wiring. I say that would be outstanding. So he gets to work. Next he asks if I have access to the crawl space. I say sure and point to the hole in the garage to the crawl space. He actually got under the house to run wire and remove the old wire runs that were still there.

He gets done with the runs and checks the signal levels and says they are way to low. He goes two houses down to check the box. He found a limiter on my line and removed it. Signal levels went up and everything was working, and is working great.

I am very happy with the work this individual did and the time he took to do it right. It took him about 2 hours 15 mins to complete the install. I loved watching the Dolphins/Steelers game last night in HD.

 Heres to YOU Oustanding Customer!

Someone that takes the time to post this deserves a high five.

There are those of us that say he didnt do anything special, he did his job and he did it well. Your actually the one that went above and beyond to recognize someone else that entered your day on a companies behalf.

Kudos to YOU!

You may say that it is all in a days work, but I have had other installs at other places that did not go even close to as this good. Maybe its because my standard expectations for an install had declined.

I had one at a different house where a new tap had to be put in and they ran a line to it and just left it on the ground. Didn't attach it to the house or anything. I believe that was Media One. They told me it would be another week before anyone could come to "fix" it.

Another time, I had some guy who looked like he was tweaking hard and smelled awful. Thankfully he only had to do work outside.

May I add as well, that this guy proved that there are good contractors out there. Kudos to him! Guys like that make my in-house position a lot nicer.

I'm glad you had a professional guy come out. Contractors get a bad name at Comcast. One bad experience spoils it for the whole bunch. I know there are some contractors that are just as good as the in house techs. You just don't hear about them, only the bad contractor experiences. Kudos goes out to the installer. Way to go dude. If DanHo would like to give me that techs info, I'll e-mail head of contracting so he can get recognition for his work.

You are correct.

Sometimes you will get someone who does a good job and they should be highly commended for it.

There are also times you get someone who is "collecting paychecks" and does the minimum to get the job done.

Anytime I get great service, I make it a point to contact that person's supervisor and tell them about their employee.

Re: Ditched the dish - Great install

I did the dish buyback thing too. I got a hd dvr installed on thursday. They did a pretty good job too. (although he only had a svideo wire for the hd dvr. I had to use my own wire.) The picture quality is ten times better than what i had with digital cable before. Tons better than directv too. (for non hd channels. I didn't have hd with dtv) I was kinda surprised.
