Re: Comcast refuses cablecard for Tivo Series3

Couldn't people just call up and tell Comcast they would like two cablecards installed in their home and conveniently leave out the part they are for one Tivo. If you get the tech to come out with two cable cards on hand I doubt he'll decline to install them then. I'm new to the whole cablecard thing though so I really don't know what kind of information Comcast requires when you request a cable card install. If it's as easy as just saying "I want a cable card installed" I can see this working. Even if the tech seems confused you could always tell him you'll gladly install them yourself while he sits in a comfy chair. Perhaps even offer a generous tip to sweeten the deal?

I feel we the techs wont get any training on it since it is a 3rd party device.
So are the TVs

Gratz on your case. As cypherstream stated though .... I say it will work , but Comcast MAY not support it. Just like we dont support home networks (yet I still help with them everyday) Let us know how it works , PLEASE ... so I dont go do an install and look like a complete baffoon. I feel we the techs wont get any training on it since it is a 3rd party device.

Was able to speak with the esclations in the local office and I've got an appointment scheduled for next week to install the cards, yay!
Good for you. That 1st Customer Service rep you talked to just didn't know their job or the right info.

I've been contacted by someone in local internal escalations, but they weren't in when I called back (was mowing the lawn). I'll keep things updated.

However, newer reports seem to indicate a reversal by time warner:

definitely drive the issue home. afaik they have to provide a cable card by law.

Interesting. After digging a bit deeper i see you are correct. However, i find it interesting that of the 3 sites i had read, all of them misunderstood this fact.

Anyways, thanks for the clarification.

No it does not have CC 2.0 support. The standard for 2.0 is not set yet and it likely won't be for some time. your confusion lies in the fact that the TiVo will support the multistream cards. But this is not 2.0. More like a 1.5. 2.0 will be the first standard that will do 2 way, none of the 1.x cards will d it. SO, no on-demand with the new TiVo.

With the s3 you can have 2 1.0 cards or 1 multistream card. This is for individual tuners.

I feel more like I do now than I did. At least I used to.

Perhaps you didnt research it.

But the Tivo Series 3 does in fact have cable card 2.0 support.

where did you get the new series 3 tivo? This is the new tivo that can support digital cable right? Does this allow you to do on-demand?
No on-demand with Cable Card, at least with version 1.0.

It supports cablecard 1.0, the 1 way cablecards. No it does not support 2 way communication which won't be available to Cablecard 2.0.

I'm not at all surprised. Time Warner was saying the same thing, that Cable Cards are only supported in TV's, not STB like Tivo. This was for all TW markets, not just the few SDV (Switched Digital Video) markets where Cable Cards are incompatible.

Just got off the phone with Comcast and the rep said that "Tivo is wrong" and that they will not supply me with one or two cablecards. I'm in the Twin Cities area (Brooklyn Park). I'm thinking of just showing up at the office instead when returning my comcast DVR and attempting to pick up cards at that point anyhow.

Anyone know any local contacts in the area so I can get this worked out?
Just call again. When anything new is involved, you get customer reps who haven't a clue what the policy is. And if you get the same bad answer, ask for a manager. And if still not satisfied, call the Comcast Executive Complaint center at (215) 665-1700 . I guarantee you will get a resolution within 1 business day.
