[OV] Find me option.

I just discovered the 'Find Me' option in my OV Dashboard.

How does this work when you don't answer any of the phones? What phone's voicemail gets the call? The one with the shortest number of rings before VM goes into action? All of them perhaps?

I thought I could just keep my cell phone number in the list but it is not always on.

Before I try it myself I'd thought I run it by here first.

I would imagine whichever phone picks up first to answer. If that phone has an answering machine or attached to its own voicemail a message would be left there.

That's what I am thinking too.

I thought of always leaving my cell phone number on the list. But doesn't it go over to voicemail almost immediately when the cell phone is off? If so, then I would always have messages on my cell's vm when the cell phone is off.

Even if I am home with my OV phone I might not be quick enough before it gets picked up by my cell vm if it is off.

See what I mean? Am I wrong?

Sounds right to me. I bet most people who use this feature don't think about this.

I had my cell on right next to me when I received a call.

My OV phone range but I didn't hear anything on my cell. Had it on vibrate however.

The call shows up in my cell phone log as a missed call even though I picked up my OV phone after one ring.

How would your cell phone know you picked up on the OV line? LOL

Check with your cell phone off also... Ive noticed that many cell phone providers have started building in rings anyway when a phone is powered off. My Verizon Wireless phone number will sting ring about 6 or 7 times

I have to tell you I am not a big user of my cell phone so I don't know too much about it or cell phones in general.
I still long for the good old days of rotary phones.

I thought that a call made to my cell phone would be 'disconnected' by CV once I picked up my OV phone. Sort of like the caller just hung up before I answered my cell.

If this is the case would any call to my cell in which the caller hung up before I answered be recorded as a missed call? If the answer is yes then this explains what happened to me.

Your cell phone shows missed call any time it rings and you don't answer, whether it rings 1 time or enough to go to voicemail. It's just the way the cell phone works.

If you're like me and use your cell phone pretty much only for emergencies, FindMe is a great feature but to overcome the latent Voicemail problems, I had my cell carrier disable Voicemail on that account.

I also never give my cell number to anyone - if they want to contact me they have to call my OV number. If I'm out I now have the option of screening the call on the cell (caller ID info is retransmitted by OV); answer it if I want; or ignore it and let the OV Voicemail pick it up.

The "Missed Calls" list on the cell phone serves as a reminder that I ignored certain calls that either went to OV Voicemail or weren't important enough for the caller to leave a message.

As an aside, prior to switching to OV, my Verizon bill was about $50/month (most of which was "feature charges) and my Verizon cell phone bill was $30/mo.

With the advent of Optimum Rewards, I effectively get OV service for $14.95 per month and I've switched to a Cingular prepaid cellphone account which I replenish with $25 every 90 days. I use the cell phone rarely so I never exceed the minute allowance.

Putting both together, my "phone" costs have dropped from around $80 per month to less than $25 per month and I get more features - FindMe being one of the most useful.

Thanks for the useful info Quint. I like the idea of the prepaid account. I have thousands of unused minutes that are never going to be used.

Prepaid is great for people who don't use the phone much.

Cingular has two prepaid plans (other carriers probably have similar offerings) - 1.) $1.00 charge for each day on which the phone is used plus 10¢ per minute of use or; 2.)Flat 25¢ per minute of use.

I use the second plan and have never had a problem keeping within the 90 day/100 minutes usage allowance and, in fact, when I replenish every 90 days I roll over the remaining prior balance and the account I started with $25 several years ago now has a $61.50 balance.

Since the balance can only be used for calls, I don't know if I'll ever get any benefit but I guess I could always lend the phone to one of my granddaughters for a couple of hours and wipe it out completely.
