Pffft!!! no really, you have seen the bizarre series of events that surrounds the PS3 right. Seriously, Sony doesn't have the time to wait for developers to figure out how to code for the cell.

As released it's going to be a slightly slower XB360. Developers who want to spend the time and money can theoretically get better performance on PS3; but how many developers are going to invest that time...keep in mind the massive wall of "minimum necessary to get it to work" ports there are on the PC. Now realize your hedging your bets that developers are suddenly going to decide to properly port code to the cell, an architecture that appears to be harder to work with than PC. Wait for your PS3, but don't be surprised if the majority of what you get are straight XB360 ports; which won't run as fast on PS3 as they did on 360.

All I know is that if the PS2 is anything, the PS3 will be a gigantic load of nearly unused hardware. Most of my games are of limited franchises (Metal Gear Solid, GTA) and retro games. All the rest of the PS2 games, unfortunately, are big "Eh?" inducers.

And another thing: load time. I can boot my GC and be into game menus and options within the first minute. My Playstation games require "warm up" time, as well as additional load screens between areas. Graphics are a nice thing, but I'm impatient with my console games. Currently, only Nintendo has gotten the picture. Blue-ray or not, I'd be seriously put off with additional warm-up time delays.
