In the province of Quebec (Canada), old churches with old copper roofs are very common. In the last year or two there have been multiple reports of copper roofs being vandalised during the night for the sole purpose to steel the copper. Sad!

Copper is now a valuable commodity. I know someone who was able to get about 1000$ Canadian for 4" copper water pipes. He only had about 100 feet of it!
