1 edit | I'm sure the environmentalists here would be thrilled if there was some positive movement toward reducing auto emissions of all kinds, which may or may not have anything to do with this suit.

Like someone else already said, car makers have been cleaning up their act.
Also, if this lawsuit goes through, guess who ends up paying...you got it! US!
This would mean higher prices for autos...
Edit...Forgot to mention more layoffs for the already struggling american carmakers. |

I thought frivolous lawsuits were being cracked down on, but when the state issues one ... time to sue the oil companies for producing all the extra gas we needed for our gas guzzling vehicles. -- [[Your signature here]] |

| reply to bobrk Someone should sue the politicians that brought up this worthless lawsuit for their part of global warming. All the hot air they blow surely leaves its mark on the environment.
said by bobrk :I think it's great. California has always led in cleaning up the air. It should continue. This has nothing to do with cleaning up the air and everything to do with the government yet again trying to hit the lawsuit lottery. Who do they hit next? Any company that makes an internal combustion engine? Perhaps they will tax you for all the CO2 you breath out everyday. This is nothing but government greed. |

| reply to IcEr3K Can we sue California for allowing all these cars to be registered and driven in the state? You'd think the state could be held liable too. I'm tiring of these nutball legislators the Golden State keeps electing. -- Life is hard. It's a lot harder if you're stupid. |

| reply to IcEr3K if the suit is over the interference they've provided in lobbying in washington AND bringing their own suits against the state over more stringent air quality standards, then by all means, sue away.
in fact, even if it's not for those explicit reasons, the reasons still stand, so have at it.

| especially them, but if you can sue tobacco companies for medical expenses because they basically lied to their customers, you can sue american car companies for their interference with state health mandates as well. it's a public policy issue. companies shouldn't be allowed to interfere/interact with the legislature or public in a way that furthers tangible, measurable harm, especially in a dishonest way, and get away with it.
you can't sell porn to minors, you can't serve a drunk man a drink, you shouldn't be allowed to market an SUV as anything other than a station-wagon with a lift kit, and you shouldn't be able to push back air quality laws for decades because you have $$ and no ability to foresee future outcome.
the only way to make it stick is to make it cost them, suing them is fine. -- A man compounded of law and gospel is able to cheat a whole country with his religion and then destroy them under color of law. -Ben Franklin |

1 edit | reply to IcEr3K With all respect to the OP, the whole global warming debate is junk science in its purest form. One degree in 100 years? Please
people get a life. There is a well documented billions of years old history of natural 10-20 degree climate swings. Twenty years ago when there was more smog in the US the whacks were screaming about global cooling and a new ice age. FYI: Surprising to some man did not cause Jurassic climate changes.
Termite farts produce far more green house gas than the entire human race combined, not to mention volcanoes. Cow and water bufflo farts are up there too. Its all funding driven research. Produce a report that says that the sky is falling and you get more funding, you get your name in the papers and get published in a left leaning, anti-business science journal you have pure job security and a raise for any half-wit university professor.
BTW: Its the same sort of junk science that has led to a world wide ban on DDT. Yup everybody knows that DDT weakens eagle eggs except its not true. But now that its an envriowacko article of faith DDT has been banned in Africa. The cost? About 1,000,000 black African childrens lives every year to malaria. All lost in the name of junk but oh so very PC science. Was it worth it? Not to me but then Im not a university professor publicly hoping for a plague to wipe out mankind. Yup your tax dollars pay for freaks teaching that to your kids. What a world we live in. -- "Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else." --FREDERIC BASTIAT--
