What's the big deal?

As longs as Cingular is not violating the contracts they have with their customers, who cares if they lawfully encourage the unprofitable ones to switch?

I WISH Cingular would do this with me, I am in a 2-year contract and their service is terrible.

All you gotta do...

Call your house phone from your cellphone during "free nights and weekends", answer the house phone and just let the minutes add up...make sure you plug your cell in to the charger for "elongated" call times >:)

And of course, this whole news item is based on the unverified letter of 1 woman to the Consumerist web site. Are the facts even accurate? Who knows? There is no proof at all about what Cingular offered or didn't offer. And no one at that site tried to verify with Cingular any of the facts. This is just another example of what passes for news these days - unsubstantiated rumors.

He's right. People nowadays take internet news, pictures and even videos as gospel without any fact checking at all.

Just look at the doctored pictures during the Lebanese conflict. Had they not been so blatantly staged/edited, people would have taken them at face value.

How much would it pain the consumerist to call Cingular for their take and put their comments in the story? If you're going to pass something as news, that's the least you should do.

Can't deny the clauses are in the Cingular contract, however.

I wouldn't know... never read their contract.

[PC guy in apple commercial] Touché [/PC guy in apple commercial]

Let's say it is in their contract. She signed it. Unless deemed unenforceable, she's out of luck.

It's not worth it, when you're guaranteed to simply get a PR rep who states Cingular is in their right to do whatever they like, at any time - action that is supported by microscopic print written by an attorney.

"Right" and "legal" are not synonymous.

She signed a contract with another provider who then was acquired, so technically it's not clear she signed a Cingular contract....

It's pretty clear to me. Suncom was aquired by Cingular more than a year ago and she has two different contracts.

So you don't report both sides of the story because you "think" you know the answer for the other side? Good thing you're not a journalist.

Does that make the action right?

Or just legal?

The "other side" is a contract written by an attorney. Any PR rep you speak to is simply going to read from a script.

What, you think Cingular is a real person with a orange spongy hair-do who is going to tell you the woman wronged them?
You mean the orange person is not real? I once was blind, but now I see....

The "other side" is a contract written by an attorney. Any PR rep you speak to is simply going to read from a script about how the company reserves the right to do anything they want, provided some attorney put it on paper.

Still doesn't make the action right, only legal. And I'd bet you could challenge some of their actions in court.

What, you think Cingular is a real person with a orange spongy hair-do who is going to tell you the woman wronged them?

This isn't Oprah.
