I see. Disabling the lan connection does not sign out of the dsl connection. Your router (or should be) maintaining that. Disabling the lan connection basically turns off the network adapter and stops communicating with the router.
Since you have two adapters listed, check the back of your computer and see if there's an ethernet port back there. If you find one, that'd be the Intel. The USB adapter would be plugged into a USB port, possibly with an ethernet cable connected to it. If you find it, remove it, and plug the ethernet cable into the built-in adapter.
Windows XP has a nasty habit of turning off network adapters simply "to save power" and this leads to plenty of problems. To stop it doing this go to Network Connections -> Local Area Connection - Right Click -> Properties -> Configure -> Power Management Uncheck the allow the computer to turn this device off option. If the Power Management tab isn't there, it just means that this isn't the cause of the problem.
Just to make sure- neither of you should be clicking on a "Verizon Online" icon of any sort to get online, you should be able to just open your browser and go. -- Think outside the fox...Seamonkey |
