Buisness Rates

We currently have several small mom-pop sized buisnesses on our service, all of them also use us for residential service as well(dialup or highspeed). Anyways a few larger buisnesses have approached me regarding our service for use as backup(the local telco has countywide dsl issues once or twice a month, right after storms pass through the state).

Our normal rate is between 36-39 depending on the lenght of the contract for residential. The current buisnesses are also priced between 36-39. I do that as they are small scale and typically do not use near what most residential customers do. They also get a break with me for having two highspeed connections(home & office).

My issue is what to charge these larger buisnesses. I've been thinking 69/month. Curious what some of you all do for buisness pricing. BTW buisness class DSL in this area is 169 per month. Though not every buisness pays that price, some pay 65 some pay 169 it's kinda screwed up.

I would charge whatever You normally do for an install, and then have a stupid $20 a month line fee and a charge per bandwidth used?. If You do that?, They will really only get hit with a small fee if any for bandwidth and a redundant fee for just annoying You!!, LOL!

I like your idea on the $65 price. You are still rewarding your small businesses that have multiple accounts, and yet giving the new customers a good deal. Everybody wins.

What kind of bandwidth are you providing and what kind of bandwidth do they get with the different classes of dsl? How many IP's etc? Support? You haven't provided enough information to evaluate what to charge.

We use the same pricing structure for small business and residential. We feel it's punishing them for being a business by increasing the rates. Our business are normally off our peak since our peak is normally after 4-5pm which at that time most businesses are shutting down.

Buisness gets 768k with a burst to 1.5mb, they will generally pull the 1.5mb due to the fact that 8-5 is not primetime. Residential is 768k Best effort, unless they have requested otherwise. People needing consistent latency are given a different QOS than others also at NC.

Buisness class DSL by the telco is 1.5mb .

We provide static IP's if required at NC.

Midsummer I hope to move everyone from 768k to 1mb, possibly greater.

Are you talking about providing wired DSL or fixed wireless?
I am paying $189 for 6 meg business DSL with 8 public IPs and an assurance that it is only oversold at 1/4th what residential is. Keep in mind also that the price does not include the phone line which you may or may not already have. With Business DSL, they have higher SLA and more detailed monitoring and management, not to mention they supply the Cisco router.

I've attached their marketing brochure but if it contravenes board policy, I'm sure a mod will remove it.
