said by howie :said by fuzzholio :what about printers....i havent been able to get my hp photosmart 1115 to work....can.t install drivers or nothing I know as soon as I turned on my Epson R300M, Vista recognized it and installed the proper drivers and I was good to go. I'm sure not all printer models are included yet in the driver database. Maybe you should let MS know about this. Same happened with my Brother printer, and not to mention, with my entire setup, without exception. T'was pretty great -- »www.opera.com/ »www.pando.com/ »www.trillianastra.com/ |

| reply to howie My dad has RC1 64-bit on his computer and we put Symantec AV 10 on it, specifically 10.0.2.2000. It throws up some alerts about how it and V8 and 9 have issues with Vista but it runs alright. Granted it is a managed install so updates are pushed to it from the server not from LiveUpdate. One interesting thing I noticed just now was that it installed into Program Files (x86) even though it is a 64-bit version (32-bit will not install). Not sure if that is causing any problems I'm not aware of.

| reply to howie Wow thanks for that info Howie. I wasn't aware of a 10.2 release, I just bought 10.1 a couple of months ago to put at the office and thought it was still the newest. I had to wait for it because they were in the transition from 10.0 to 10.1 and as such were no longer stocking 10.0 and were out of 10.1. I'll have to see if I can upgrade. |

| If you don't already have Vista installed to test this with I can help you out of you want. I've got some form of Office from 4.3 to 2007 beta (not sure if I can still find 4.3 but I know where 95 and newer are). Just out of curiosity, why do you want to stick with 97? |

Well, I don't want to stick with 97, but I just don't have the money to buy an up-to-date version. Apart from this, this version has always run smoothly on my machines. |

| reply to howie My guess is that 97 should work... It ran fine on XP before I upgraded to 2003. Maybe some nice person here can test it on Vista for you. I would but I don't want to mess up Office 2003 -- In Memory of Steve Irwin, 1962-2006. Rest in Peace, mate... |

| Yeah that's my thought as well. Dad has Office 2003 on there and I'd rather not mess it up even though it wouldn't be hard to reinstall.
OT...how many computers can you install RC1 on at a time? We got in the beta under the Partner Program if that makes any difference. If I can install it in VMWare I'd be glad to test any software I have or can obtain. |

| That's what I thought as well. I should probably look on the emails and/or on Microsoft's site to be certain though. Or I could just try installing it anyway and see if it will activate. The hardware is different so it shouldn't think it is the same computer and if it activates it should be allowed.
Well I guess I have to do some deeper digging. So far all I have found is the Office 4.3 Pro CD and the case for Office 97 Pro (empty of course). |
