Hmm. I've been thinking that Embarq and Century Tel should merge, and maybe throw Alltel and/or TDS in there too. Basically a merger of all the major rural telcos.

Alltel is a wireless only company now. I think you are thinking of Windstream Communications.

Ummm...Alltell is still providing landline service in rureal TX outside of Ft Worth. My daughter has them.

They recently spun off the landline ops into Windstream Communications.
