Sony's first and biggest market is Japan, so smart move by Sony. The Japanese gaming industry (console, game developers) make games for the Japanese market...no one else. The US market is a drop in the bucket. Sony doesn't have to lower prices for US gamers.
But Sony has sold more PS2 consoles in the US than were sold in Japan.

I'm not seeing how Sony's "biggest" market is Japan.
